I have been trying to get into online market research to try to earn a bit of cash, I have registered on a few sites but have found that when I start a survey I am 'not suitable' or as I am from N. Ireland our opinion appears not to be considered! Any ideas please?

Have you tried Test&Vote - they have Irish and UK sites so if you don't qualify on one you might qualify on the other - or GlobalTestMarket who have a big presence worldwide?

I think the "scatter gun" approach is a good one, also. Sign up for all the popular ones (TNS, Test and Vote, Global Test Market, ACOP, Valued Opinions, Yougov, IPSOS, Home of Research, Lightspeed, Mediatransfer, Ciao...) rather than just a few, even though it can be really tedious to go through the registration process for some of them. Some will only come through with surveys once in a blue moon, others more frequently. If you're registered with a whole load of survey companies you won't notice as much as when you get screened out of some. In fact, sometimes I look at my in box and think "Oh, please! let me get screened out of some of these..." because there can be so many there. Other days, there are none and I think my email account isn't working.

With the whole screening out thing, it can be really frustrating at times, regardless of where you live. With some of them, you answer pages of questions when you register, giving them a really detailed profile of your life, and then they still send you unsuitable surveys which you get screened out of after 5 minutes anyway. Test and Vote used to be rotters for this - I would get really far into the survey before being dumped - but nowadays I find they screen out more efficiently.

Hope you find some good ones.
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

  • Which survey sites are best for getting items to test? I love the idea of trying out products before they are available in the shops, even if it's only a new flavour of crisps or a drink.

I've only had them through Test and Vote (now known as Toluna) but I don't get to test many things (I'm guessing because of my profile). I also ditch a lot of their surveys because I get screened out of theirs quite often after putting in quite a bit of time into them! Homeworkeruk may have some better leads....

  • Hello all.

Has anybody found Toluna any good?

I've got about 60,000 points from them in the last year (that's only about £15, I think) but I only do their stuff from time to time. I disregard a lot of their surveys due to lack of time. I'm sure you can do quite well out them if you check your email several times a day, get stuck in before they fill their quota and persevere with their surveys. Some people reckon it's a good idea to convert your points into ipoints, too.

Despite the name, I've never managed to get any products to test from Test&Vote (now Toluna) but I do get loads of regular surveys to complete. The sites I get the most test products from are first, by a mile, Pinecone Research and then Valued Opinions and IPSOS with a few from Global Test Market. I've personally only ever received food/drink and cleaning products to test.

I've never received any products to test but I do get a lot of survey invitations. Although I get screened out of most of them, those that I qualify for pay fairly well and there is a fair range of incentives to chose from.

i think valued opinions is a conn!! i was a little dubeuous to begin with as some people reccommend it, and others slam it. the first few surveys were fine. banked the cash on my username. but whenever i took part in a larger surveys, i'd complete them - actually be on the page that says "you have completed this survey - click here to collect your reward" - the page would go dead. nothing! this has happened several times now.

Which browser are you using? I've had problems in the past with Firefox being unable to complete sections of surveys and now try to only use Internet Explorer, much as I prefer Firefox for normal use.

Personally I've never had any problems completing or getting paid by Valued Opinions and it remains one of my top earners.
