If it's too big for your freezer, have you checked that it's going to fit in your oven? :eek:0

Defrost as per the instructions. Cook the thing when it's defrosted. Slice it and freeze the cooked turkey. Remove the cooked turkey and let it defrost when you need it. Heat it thoroughly before you serve it with dinner if you want it warm or use it cold.....
With the added advantage that getting Christmas dinner ready will be less stressful because the turkey is cooked.
My Mum always like to cook the turkey very slowly and got up at some silly time on Christmas morning to get it in the oven. As time went by and she couldn't manage the early starts, we convinced her to cook it during the day on Christmas Eve and then it was sliced and ready to serve - worked well!0 -
I don't think it sounds sad at all, more very sensible.
When we used to buy the turkey for Xmas dinner at my parents' house, my OH (who's got a logical mind) always checked every frozen turkey in the cabinet for which would fit best in the oven. :rotfl:
Thanks for that, a man after my own heart! Last weekend I picked up a few turkeys (and got frozen fingers) but wasn't confident they'd fit so didn't buy.
Funnily enough, my mother always cooked the turkey on Christmas Eve and my dad was allowed some leg meat for a late night snack. Personally I get up early and then go back to bed and I don't put the sprouts on at the same time! :rotfl:0 -
Please, do NOT wash or rinse the turkey. Nor any raw meat for that matter. Rinsing meat increases the risk of bacterial spread and thus illnesses.

Defrost turkey safely.
Cook.
Cut into joints ( legs, breasts etc.)
Cool joints, wrap each one well in foil then bag individually.
Thaw each cooked joint as and when needed.0 -
I bought a fresh one today and am not worried about keeping it in the fridge till Xmas day.0

I am going to transfer a frozen turkey into my fridge tomorrow, will be taking it, ready roasted and sliced, to dd on christmas day, will roast it the afternoon before. Quick cool, pack into three aluminium covered trays into fridge and then transport in a chilled coolbag. The 3 trays means that she can re-heat as required
My fresh crown is arriving on friday, far too much for one and I dislike frozen cooked turkey, the texture and the fact that it only keeps one month. Organic crown and very expensive so I will cut carefully into raw portions ready eg to beat into escalopes. Carefully vac pack, label and freeze. I will deal with the breast bone and scraps on the friday, making delicious stock and some turkey soup0
