Turkey won't fit in freezer, lol

So a week to go
Leave in fridge. When defrosted enough , remove from the bag and as soon as defrosted enough take out the bag of giblets , give it a good rinse out and place on a clean plate
Every day, rinse and put on a clean plate. It’s usually the leaking fluids which will turn and taint
Seriously if it’s a big bird I really wouldn’t be worried. If however you do start getting antsy, cook it a day or two ahead I usually cook the turkey the day before. Smothered with lots of butter and not stuffing it, it stays moist and hasn’t poisened anyone yet0 -
Have you got a secure garden shed/garage? A turkey too big for the freezer is going to be too big for most family fridges! As it is so cold, atm, you could safely leave it in an UNHEATED shed/garage wrapped as it is until Thursday, then remove the wrappings and leave it to defrost - still in the shed/garage (as long the shed/garage is a livestock free zone), until Christmas eve. Then, get someone to cut off the legs and wings so that it will fit safely in the oven xxx - and cook according to the label on the bird x
I'd do this - you could always throw some ice packs in as well or a bag of ice cubes or two to ensure its stays frozen until you need to defrost it.0 -

Interesting
I have an out house. It's freezing out there.0 -

I'd have a think about this.
My freezer is usually pretty full, but I have a loaf, some bread cobs & some veg I've blanched that I could scrap to fit a turkey in.
In fact, I'd find it easier to find room in my freezer than the fridge.
I'm not sure I'd want it sat in the fridge for almost a week.0 -
I've got a similar potential problem but fortunately not bought mine yet.:)
I'm always worried about leaving purchase until the last minute as one year I was driving around like mad trying to find somewhere that had frozen turkeys left!
I know some people risk it until Christmas Eve but I couldn't do that.
I know this sounds sad but yesterday I measured the freezer drawer that I used last year and put the tape measure in my bag before I go to the shops.:D0 -

I don't think it sounds sad at all, more very sensible.
When we used to buy the turkey for Xmas dinner at my parents' house, my OH (who's got a logical mind) always checked every frozen turkey in the cabinet for which would fit best in the oven. :rotfl:0 -

And also for many ovens ! So worth checking this in advance too, just in case, as thorsoak says you end up having to removes the legs to get it in the oven !0 -
I had this problem last year. I put it in a supermarket coolbag then in our camping coolbox(not electric and just plastic). Then I stuffed in as many bits of bubble wrap and ice blocks(lunch box type which usually live in the freezer) as would fit. Last of all, I wrapped the closed box in a spare boiler jacket although a sleeping bag would have done.
It was fine on Christmas eve so I left it there and cooked it Christmas day as usual. The box was kept by the backdoor which is the coldest place in the house.0 -
Defrost as per the instructions. Cook the thing when it's defrosted. Slice it and freeze the cooked turkey. Remove the cooked turkey and let it defrost when you need it. Heat it thoroughly before you serve it with dinner if you want it warm or use it cold.....0
