    Hello,
I used to be a regular on here some years ago. I found myself drawn back to the forums and was chuffed to see the small things thread still going - it used to be daily when I used to post regularly. It was very motivating to read the posts... may I join you to help me get back on track?

    My list for today
    - clear the 'room of doom' aka the spare bedroom for guests arriving later this week
    - box up DS's old clothes for loft/donation
    - pile for donation
    - laundry x 2
    - at least 1 hour ironing
    - change bedding
    - clean bathrooms
    - get some calpol/ibuprofen as we are low and looks like we will need it over Christmas
    - check bank accounts
    - pay tv licence

I am hoping to do more but DS has had a temperature so needs lots of cuddles.

    Morning Festive Frugalistas!
Welcome to new people & returners. We like both on here! Nice not to have much to do today......AND mr f brought me breakfast in bed & let me open a present! So today's money saving efforts will go like this:
*Mix up just half a pack of colour to tackle my yukky roots. The other half will do for next time so 2 uses from 1 pack.
*Finish my home made mini pork pies by doing the stock/gelatine bit.
*Decided not to go into town. I usually like to go in on Christmas Eve as it's so festive & we'd usually treat ourselves to coffee & cake, but it's Sunday, so no market & we have good coffee beans & home baked cake & biscuits here. Prob £12 saved plus parking.
*Laundry has dried overnight on heated airer so will need folding & putting away.
*Set dining table to look festive.....no new stuff bought, not even Christmassy paper napkins, as found 2 unopened packs in a cupboard while I was looking for something else.
*mr f is cooking a ham tonight. We always have on over Christmas, but it's usually an 'extra'. This year, I put roast ham, home made jacket potato wedges, parsley sauce & veg on tonight's meal plan as we will obviously get better value from the ham if it also does a proper meal.
*Remember to take braised red cabbage & bread sauce out of freezer. Will do that when I stuff & sew up the turkey. Mr f v v good at cooking turkeys but can't sew to save his life!
And importantly, don't be suckered into buying anything else. It's so easy to pop out for 1 item & return with more nibbly bits. We have loads of food in. We don't need to buy any more.
As you can tell from this list, I shall be spending most of today relaxing. Might do a tiny knitting project. Might.not.
Bright Yuletide blessings to you all.
    Peace & love,
    F xx

    Afternoon all :)
Still coughing and wheezing, but I did manage to sleep better last night :)
Which is just as well, as I looked after little GD this morning so her mum and dad could catch up on some sleep. We walked to Sainsburys and bought Christmas presents (reduced packs of dog treats), for all the dogs, their two plus ours. Then we had to bring them home and wrap them with odd bits of Christmas paper and sellotape, and write out the labels with the dogs' names. GD did the wrapping and wrote the names herself (she can do this if I write on a piece of paper for her to copy) so this was quite a lot of entertainment for the £2.25 that the packs of treats cost, and some learning too :)

Not much done apart from that, or not yet - she has only just left!
I did quickly clean up the kitchen and put some washing out though!
    Still to do:
Take the bacon and sausages out of the freezer to go with the turkey tomorrow
Washing in from line and on airer overnight
Get a box out of the garage to wrap a present for a relative we will see on Boxing Day :)
General tidy up ready for tomorrow
    Dog walk later
Then collapse in a heap next to the wood burner I think!
Hope everyone has a lovely evening :)
Simple dinner - meatballs in tomato sauce with pasta. Meatballs and sauce were already made and only had to be taken out of the freezer :)
Mend OH's trousers as I STILL haven't done this :o Then I can put them away and not have to see them draped over the back of the sofa anymore :T

Evening all, CLF, that sounds a nightmare, I would have cried :(

I've had quite a productive day, I got the last few presents wrapped then DS said he was popping out for a couple of hours so I seized the opportunity to retrieve some cutlery, crockery and dirty laundry from his room and ended up hoovering and shampooing the carpet!

The second load of both washing and dishwashing are currently in, one more dishwasher load and we will have everything clean at once (not for long though, I'm sure!)

The cat litter has been changed and I will give the bathroom a quick sweep and Hoover all the carpeted areas in the morning, everywhere has been thoroughly cleaned recently so just needs a quick tidy round.

I've relegated the Eton mess I was going to make for pudding to the evening now and I'm going to do mince pies and custard for pudding instead (none of us like Christmas pudding) as its much less faff. The (ready cooked and carved) turkey is out and defrosting ready to be reheated tomorrow.

I've been out for dinner tonight to a local pub courtesy of Clubcard vouchers, I had Stilton and mushrooms on brioche to start, butternut squash and falafel burger with sweet potato fries and then we shared a millionaires cheesecake and very nice it was too!

I've done a 10% water change for the fish but it still all looks a bit murky in there though DS tells me that algae is a *good* thing (though this is the boy that was growing cultures on my crockery.) I will wait for everything to settle and then change some more.
    Make £25 a day in April £0/£750 (March £584, February £602, January £883.66)

    December £361.54, November £322.28, October £288.52, September £374.30, August £223.95, July £71.45, June £251.22, May£119.33, April £236.24, March £106.74, Feb £40.99, Jan £98.54) Total for 2017 - £2,495.10
  • Just popping on to wish everyone a happy, hopefully healthy and peaceful Christmas.

DawnW what a lovely thing for ur GD to do today for the dogs, and a great idea to keep her occupied on what must be the exciting day besides the big day itself.

Have had quite a productive day today when I wasn't being disaster prone. DD was late off to visit her boyfriends after one of my castors started to seize up on my chair among other things

Once DD had left I went to collect the turkey and beef, then had a message to say open the present under the tree.....a slow cooker.....wanted one for a bit so very happy.
Then took the opportunity to bring all of DDs presents down, and decided on the way to call in at tesc#s on the way to DMs for any reduced veges. There were so many people going mad over the YS stuff. Then spent the rest of the afternoon and evening at DM with relatives before coming home to test drive my slow cooker.
Have a great Christmas everyone x

Hmmm - not so great. The room took a lot longer and still needs work but i have made decent progress. I have far too much stuff and struggle to let it go...

Sadly DS is poorly and it doesn't look like it will clear by tomorrow so Christmas Day may be an issue!

Hope you all have a lovely Christmas.
