I think it is worth asking in branch. You've got nothing to lose..

Be sure let to us know what they say...
particularly if they refund it, as the same has happened to me... the very next day...several times.
Can I be the next person in the queue? Would love to see the staff reactions!

Why on earth would the bank be responsible? They gave you the money and you threw it away. The bank has nothing to do with it.
  • I now feel bad !

To answer your question, I very much doubt you will get anything back from Santander.

If you want to try, then do so.

I guess you may want to learn from this experience and all in all it was only a £10.

Many people leave more than that in cash machines, my Wife has a story of £250 when she turned up to one. !
Debt is a symptom, solve the problem.

    I have a wallet.

If I withdraw cash from my bank (can't remember when I last did) or an ATM, or ideed anytime I take cash in my hand, I immediately place it into my wallet. I would never put a banknote in a coat pocket, because I am quite capable of doing exactly what the OP did, and losing it.

I really don't use cash much at all now. Had a couple of notes in my wallet for weeks now.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

What are my rights for throwing away rubbish that was combined with a ten pound note straight after withdrawing from in branch over the counter because I realised what a numpty I was after getting on the bus. May they [Santander] or may they not refund me the money back into my account?

If you can prove you withdrew the money and you can prove you lost it, your household contents insurance might cover it. I'm covered for the loss of up to £100 cash outside the home with no excess requirement. Proof you lost it is that you reported it to the police who supplied incident number or reference number.

Highly doubtful that Santander will refund it but there's nothing to stop you trying.
  • I don’t think they will do anything as once the cash is in your hand it’s your responsibility I would of thought.
