Thanks cw18 Though I thought when the rads needed bleeding that they got partly warm but not all over? But I'll find something use, a screwdriver maybe, and see whether that makes a difference.
My dodgey tyres ended up being one dodgey tyre that need replacing. I drove into work expecting to have to replace at least 2 and bracing myself for 4 so I'm quite relieved it was just the one.
Anyway..it's my birthday today
I was supposed to be heading to York but had to cancel due to work. (the hotel refund has paid for my tyre) Probably for the best given the money situation but my reason for going away for my birthday is that it often feels like a non event full of expectations that go nowhere.
So, here it is, a non event full of expectations going nowhere! lolol
I'm with you nannygladysmy savings are quite depleted and I need to concentrate on building those up again and getting a larger emergency fund, so it's sensible, thoughtful, budgeted spending so that I can do that.0 -

It depends on how much air has got into the system. I don't think you can bleed them without a proper bleed key - though I seem to recall scraping it one with some fine pliers. It's a smaller (normally metal) version of a meter cupboard key. I keep mine on a key ring on a hook in the hallway - anywhere else and I can never find itThanks cw18 Though I thought when the rads needed bleeding that they got partly warm but not all over? Happy Birthday :bdaycake:
Mine are always non-events too. But we're off to Birmingham NEC the weekend before my next one (big running show we got free tickets for, so just tranport to pay for and spending money to find), and I'm then off work all week to try and get some batch-cooking done between runs and swims
I won't see much of OH the following weekend due to his shift change, so I'm debating looking for a real race to enter locally and telling him NOT to come over - that would give me some belated bling as a self-earned belated pressie
I can always try the local Park Run on the Saturday - not something I can normally do due to being at work, so that would be a bit of a treat for me too.......
Only problem is my next-to-youngest grand-daughter is likely to have a party one of those weekends as her birthday (her 7th) is the day after mine, and I'm always expected to show up! I think I may try and arrange to nip up and see her on the actual day this year - possible due to being on annual leave, and I won't have to rush home as I won't have to get up for work the next day either

Hi everyone
Happy birthday FrankieM, hope you had a lovely day.
Well had a frugal day today, been painting a chest of drawers but its been hard going as its been primer, undercoat and top coat, and a couple of coats of each. Still Im nearing the end of it but then Im going to start on the wardrobe before doing the walls etc. Keeps me out of trouble and the shops!!

Thank you everyone for your birthday wishes.
After a bit of a false start, it ended a lovely day. My DD1 worked really hard to make it special.
The loveliest bit being greeted by my 3 year old gran daughter singing me happy birthday as I walked through the door last night. Just adorable.
It's a new month for me as I got paid yesterday, so money has been moved about, including overpayments for my loan and I've got the cash out for food and fuel for the month.
I need to work hard on not spending money unwisely this month and going forward so I will be constantly asking myself whether I really 'need' to buy something or do something that's going to cost me money.
I'll also be looking to try to earn extra money to build up my saving pots and emergency fund.
And the weight loss. That's been disastrous this month. I think due to being anxious about money and due to some things defrosting and me thinking 'I really need to eat that whole loaf of bread because if I throw that out, well what a waste!' lol
So back to it!
When I was working at a night shelter for the homeless I used to say to the guys as they left in the morning 'make good choices' (cause how do you say have a good day to people who are going to wander the streets in the cold and rain until the following evening) It started off jokey but by the end of the season a lot of them were saying it to me as they left
Maybe I need to be saying that to myself a bit more!0 -
Hppy Birthday Frankie,I love MSE, Thank you to all who share their journey and knowledge to reach their goals and live a good life on a small income.
2025 will be a year of necessary challenges and changes, and closing some doors permanently that don’t serve me or are not in my best interest.0 -
Yesterday was our Macmillan coffee morning at work so money was spent donating. I then went to the pub for a few hours for 'birthday beers' where no money was spent.

I'm working today and tomorrow to get money in the emergency fund again and I'll be fed at work, which is a bonus.
I'm also close enough that I can come home on my break and do a bit of house work so that's the plan for today and probably tomorrow.
I'm away for 3 days next week on a course so I'm eating all the fresh stuff and having tubs from the freezer. I'll need to buy some cat food but I won't do a grocery shop until I get back.
I love the organised start of a month!
Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

Good morning frugalers, apologies once again for lack of posting but life does take over and then time flies. Frugaling habits are well and truly set here, so I don't think I do too badly with what I have to juggle.
We now have 5 rehomed ponies at the frugaldom project, so it has meant (and continues to mean) extra fundraising to cover increased costs. Obviously, my life outside of household budget is NOT included in the household budget - it is simply how I choose to spend my money, so we don't have holidays, we provide them for others, instead.
Pan of soup made overnight in the slow cooker, an odd mix of veg, broth mix, onions and ham stock cubes to use stuff up before restocking begins. Heaters already needing switched on here; we had the first proper frost of the year on Friday morning so the grass was crispy when walking to the free swimming session at pool. Not too cold that I called that off, as its great swimming 5 mornings a week.
Spare change still going in pots, egg money still being used to pay hen feed and every available penny being saved towards the next big investment purchase, whatever that may be. I'd still love a log cabin but that's still not on the horizon yet.
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.
