it wasn't the cost, as to whether it affects the device itself. Especially a proprietary router given free from Talk Talk, which i don't imagine to be of any exceptional quality

7 different people in this thread have told you to keep it switched on. You're more likely to cause damage or problems by switching it on and off all the time than you are leaving it on as was designed.

How many times have you read in the press/here/on tv etc about talk talk routers spontaneously combusting and causing damage?

Mines been on for weeks, had to reboot it for something (Xbox related I believe) but other than that its been fine, it works as it should.

If you keep switching the router off, the internet will keep building up and ultimately causes a massive blockage in the phone line.
