Went to M&S tonight and ALL their Christmas stuff is half price if anyone still needs to buy anything (excluding crackers), toys, smellies, cards, garden gifts, you name it.

I was tempted by the bee house but, pretty though it is, I'm sure there are plenty of nooks and crannies in my garden store for solitary bees and all manner of creepy crawlies. I did buy a battery operated letter with lights to attach to my mum's presents for £2.50 (about 6inches high, it's a tree ornament but very sturdy.)

  • Morning :) phew it's the weekend  But it's busy again  as an introvert I am finding all these social commitments a bit too wearing now and am feeling exhausted. I want to hole away but no chance for a while..... Need to make the most of the moments where I can!

    Today:

    * Going to get ready in a bit and take madam to see Father Christmas at the local garden centre
    * then going to visit old childminder - I thought this was tomorrow so thought I had more time for....
    * need to make some scones first!
    * have a quick bath & madam to jump in my water
    * hang up washing & do another load
    * need to do some straightening of accounts - things are getting way out of control!
    * going to a friend's 40th birthday party tonight. Thinking about driving....
    * all meals from stores
    * wrap the last few presents
    * hopefully get some time to do some knitting this afternoon!

Right I better start on these scones!

  • FVD DD brought back a load of half price goodies for me from Marks when she arrived home last night as she has a Marks much closer to her than I have. Ideal for presents next year. Managed to pack them all away last night but feel tired this morning as I was up much later waiting for DD

Bestie is beyond excited for Prague tomorrow, if I make it it will be a miracle. So far I've been hit on the head by a cereal advent calender, I'm trying to dry out a form that got covered with milk that also got hit by the calender. The 6 month old pudgy roly poly kitten is going through a phase of pushing everything off the top of cupboards. I was checking my travel stuff and the travel money was nearly eaten and the passports covered in teethmarks:eek:.she has also managed to drag her favourite snake out, which means she is in full play mode, wait till she sees the tree going up this morning.........im not expecting much of a tree to be left once we are back tbh:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:
Was supposed to be going to a training event tonight but I'm thinking I might give it a miss as I have so much to do,plus it will save some pennies.
Usual stuff done this morning and shopping all up to date but still feel disorganised. Was surprised to come down this morning to find the house not trashed with DD stuff, she put most of it away last night......that is a first

1LL i hope everything sorts itself out with RL, it is awful when it throws a curveball. Sending hugs.

Have a good day everyone......im off to finally put my tree up:j:j:j

    Morning all :)
Just in from an icy dog walk - brrr
    Apart from that:
Washed hair and allowed to dry naturally (wore an unflattering tea cosy type hat for dog walk as it wasn't quite dry, but better that than frozen hair )
HG fruit from freezer instead of bought fresh fruit for breakfast :)
Folded dry washing from airer and put in airing cupboard, put airer away :)

    Still to do:
Continue with marathon cleaning session - ground floor today - hope to get it finished, but that depends on whether DD needs us to have GD Done, except for a few little corners :T DD has a friend visiting today with her children, so that kept GD busy :)
Sew a button back on OH's trousers (I hate sewing :() Done, put the trousers away in OH's newly decluttered cupboard :T
Water Christmas tree, which is still waiting for grandchildren to decorate it. Might put the lights on it, as they can't do that. Watered it, but haven't put the lights on yet!
Wax a rubbishy photo frame that SiL wanted mended. OH said yes assuming it would be made of wood, but it is made from some kind of cardboard material and it was impossible to mend neatly, essentially a disposable object. SiL is a bit of a hoarder and wouldn't want to throw it away so I chalk painted it to cover up the mend a bit. I will wax it, he can have it back, and that will be another bit of junk out of the house :T Not yet
Check for surveys later, there aren't ususally many at the weekends
Not planning any spending (though I will have to go to the SM tomorrow due to visitors with fussy kids on Monday) Found a pinecone one :)
OH seems to have caught the decluttering bug - he came downstairs with some paperwork to go through the shredder and a pile of old auction catalogues for the recycling :T
Tried the Dundee cake I made last night - I thought I had overcooked it, but it is lovely :T Had I known it would be so nice I would have saved it for Christmas, but to be honest, we will have enough to eat :rotfl:
Sold 3 items on ebay, so 4 need to be packed ready for posting on Monday
Started a shopping list, as DD1 and her 2 children are coming to stay on Monday for a couple of days. The kids are fussy, and one is a fussy vegetarian :rotfl:
Nothing spent today though, as apart from 2 dog walks, I haven't been anywhere :)

Anyway, more coffee, then I must get on!

Afternoon all, another lovely long sleep for me, I refuse to feel guilty, if my body didn't need it then it would wake up!

I'm back to work tomorrow and doing a couple of extra days so will spend today doing the last of the pre Christmas cleaning.

Somebody has sent me something (a Christmas card I imagine) with not enough postage on and it's going to cost me £2 to get it  I might just ignore it :o

I want to pick up an accounts book from a local discount shop as I just have a pile of receipts at the moment, I'm nowhere near in the black yet but it will be good to see the figures edging closer.

I need to move the money from my mum's account to mine to reimburse what I paid for her hamper stuff for her friends.

Eggs, mushroom and tomatoes for lunch, my favourite!

    Hello Festive Frugalistas,
Not much of a job list today as we've been out & about, but am posting to say I've been well-behaved money-wise:
*Used our annual NT passes to visit a Christmassy event in neighbouring county (gave Ziggy a virtual wave up the M1!)
*Took packed lunch. If we have the funds, I don't mind buying an occasional coffee & cake out, but defo not lunch as well as those are the sort of spends which can mount up very quickly over a month.
*mr f fought the red mist very successfully at the butchers.....choosing a perfectly ample size steak instead of the quarter of cow he had his eye on initially. I was even more money saving.....decided I'd prefer prawns.......which we've already got at home in the freezer.
*Use -it-ups.....leftover wraps for picnic, leftover whole milk & evapourated milk going into a home made rice pudding tonight.
*At the park we visited today, the holly hedges had just been cut so I gathered a bagful of prunings that were strewn around to go in my door wreath tomorrow.
*Knit.....am loving using up my stash. Lots of lovely projects for zero spend.
*Put Christmas tree up. Our usual one is now too tall to bring indoors so we were intending to buy another smaller potted one but Mum gave us hers. £30 saved. Also, I haven't bought any new decorations this year & have no intention of doing so. We have plenty. Back in the Spendy Decades, when I was a Very Silly Girl Indeed with money, this would have been unheard of. The decs I like the most are the ones I've had for ages, or are handmade or have memories attached, such as the snowball dec we bought on our honeymoon, etc. I love trimming up but am.now a big believer in 'Less is more' which also helps with money saving.
Cold here. Snow shower this morning but it only settled for a little while.
DNMS - was so surprised to read that you are an introvert (in your own words). I always think you sound like the life & soul of the party!
    Ok, knitting time.

  • My tree is up:j:j:j so happy despite getting the new lights in a right tangle and thought it would end up looking a right mess but it has actually turned out well. Bought Arg#s own lights last year when the other tree lights packed up at the beginning of Christmas. The tree looked miserable but we couldn't be bothered to de trim and 're trim the tree so kept our fingers crossed this year that the lights worked. All is good.

No money spent today. I haven't been out but DD went out before to do a few bits.
For lunch we had a bit of a freezer dive to use up bits and pieces to make room for a couple of bits I want to get in for Christmas.
DD has already started to tuck into the savoury nibbles and chocolates but I knew she would and have been stockpiling while they were all on special offer.
Not a lot of food bits left to get for Christmas, in fact shopping list will be mainly cat litter.
House is still fairly tidy which is a miracle with DD:rotfl::eek::rotfl:
Have a good evening everyone x

Floors are washed and I've cleaned the ovens, I don't think I've ever cleaned an oven before, I usually move house :rotfl:

I cooked a roast tonight using my last pack of YS roast chicken slices, They have lasted a long time and I have a YS beef joint in there for next time (and a couple more after that.) I used some YS posh sausages in the stuffing that contained lentils and super greens (whatever they are), I prefer the ordinary ones but they were cheaper so hey ho.

My uniform is all ironed ready for tomorrow, I still need to transfer the money from my mum's account. My latest delivery to Amazon has become active so fingers crossed for the new lines (two of which were the very first ones that I did that they promptly lost!)

    Have a lovely evening everyone!
