O/S Daily Sunday 10th December 2017
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone
It is raining heavily here so no snow for us. I’ve just looked at the forecast and it says that we will get snow later today. It feels quite a bit warmer than yesterday as well.
It’s good that you are seeing some improvement in your leg Cranky, hopefully it will continue.
Csarina, I’m pleased that your shed is finally sorted for you, you don’t need all that hassle.
I’ve also bought one of those long sleeved thermal vests from M&S Lainey, and find it really warm without being bulky.
LW it sounds like you have had a nasty scare. I hope that you are feeling a bit better now.
It’s good that Becky is home for the weekend again Dumpling and wants to go shopping. Hopefully things will continue to improve for her and you all as a family. I don’t envy you going shopping on a Saturday just before Christmas though.
I spent most of yesterday trying to stay warm. My knee is feeling much better this morning so I intend to make a chilli for dinner today and will make either a lamb or beef stew for tomorrow’s dinner as well. It will be nice to have some home cooked meals again, especially as the weather has turned so cold.
I was thinking of going into town this morning for a few things, but the combination of snow being forecast and the sheer number of people in the shops a couple of weekends before Christmas has put me off that idea. I will go in one day next week.
Stay warm and safe and have a good day everyone whatever you are doing.0 -
Good Morning, very cold and grey here - the outside thermometer is showing below zero, brrr.
Glad your knee seems to be improving HH, but don't get over confident and start doing too much, it'll still need rest.
Yesterday I did some shopping, just went to M****sons as it's the nearest. I didn't need much. I keep meaning to go there on a Monday morning, I read on here that that's when they reduce their meat.
Last night we had plaice fillets because I'd made some tartare sauce and wanted to test it, we thought it was nice, better that the supermarket variety. Mind, I did cheat and use ready made mayonnaise.
Today, I'm going shopping with a friend. Well we are planning to, but if the forecast snow starts anytime soon, it'll be called off. She lives in a rural area, and the buses will stop if there's snow. It's ok for me as i live on a main bus route between two cities. We'll see. We would come home in mid afternoon anyway.
Have a good day everyone, stay warm. Healing thoughts to the sick and worried.0 -
Good morning everyone.
It’s frosty outside, no snow but still very white. I’m enjoying a lie-in with a book and catching up with Saturday Live which has Tim Peak on.
Today I have no real plans! Things may evolve. :j
After sending back the first new laptop I bought a lovely one on Friday, it’s a Dell without any bloatware so I’m really happy. Whilst in Glasgow I managed to download most of what I wanted (MS Office etc) as DM has fibre broadband. It would have taken days here.
Right, I’m off back to my book, Ann Cleeves’ Cold Earth.
Sending good vibes to everyone. Happy Sunday folks.0 -
Morning all.
Now don't faint, especially LW, at me posting at this time in the morning :rotfl:. Been awake since 5am but stayed warm in bed till nearly 8 when I got up and had a fried egg sandwich, don't know why I was so hungry !
We have had more snow . About another 6 inches and it's still coming down. I bet the DGC will be happy, as they were praying for snow. DD and SiL are probably also praying as both their schools will probably be closed tomorrow, especially DD's, as hers is much further up the valley
.
Had a bit of a to do with elderly neighbour last night, Mr Fix It had to ring her son as she was shouting " help me" whilst standing on the front door. We tried to reason/placate her, but nothing was working. Her son said he had already had 4 calls that day about her, probably from the carers. I hope he comes up to help her as I don't think the carers will get through and he only lives 10 mins walk away. I will walk to my Dads if he needs me.
Talking about Dad, I will ring him later to make sure he's OK, I know he has enough food but he will be missing the TURKEY dinner today . Oh well I'll get Mr Fix It to carve it up and try and shoe some of it in the freezer....... somehow :rotfl:. I think I'll forego a roast lunch and have turkey and chips instead
.
As all the work is mostly up to date I shall chillax, actually I may get the camera out and take some snowy pics.
Nelski thanks for the suggestion but what about something of a warmer clime, something further sarrrf say........... Australia !:rotfl::rotfl:.
LW hope you are feeling OK today. Perhaps your blood pressure was low or your blood sugar, maybe a good idea to get checked out at the DR's.
HollyH now don't push yourself too much and just rest that knee if you can.
JackieO I'm glad your DD is improving.
Gers enjoy your new laptop
Hugs all round today, keep safe and warm.Failure is simply the opportunity to begin again, but this time more intelligently0 -

Morning All
Cold and frosty here but no snow. Looks like the sun could shine if it can climb high enough.
Thanks for the carol tru - takes me right back, (won't say how many years!).
Hope you managed to brave the crowds yesterday dumpling and have a good weekend with Becky.
Be careful with that knee Holly, don't want you slipping on ice or snow.
Glad you got your laptop sorted Gers, hope your DM is ok in this weather.
I've finished wrapping for the season, I woke up early so decided to tackle the last few bits. DD and BF are coming later so we'll exchange and open gifts today, Indian ready mades for dinner!
Visited friends yesterday afternoon and took their gifts, it was lovely driving up the side of Loch Lomond but a bit dark for me on the way back. Don't like driving on unlit roads in the dark, especially as the temperature was so low.
Right, off to tackle the living room - when the sun shines I can see the dust on the wooden floor!
Happy Sunday. Take care. XX0 -
Morning cherubs
Snow pretty much gone here and its drizzling snow/rain so probably wont stick ....famous last words eh
Defo a pj day for moi
Was pretty lazy yesterday so most of that cleaning is still to be done today. Had a bacon and monteray jack burger and a caesar salad last night...basically an attempt to recreate the lovely meal I had out at the markets from my own stock
:D It was nearly there just need a brioche bun next time
Got a fish pie defrosting for today so will have that with leeks and peas later
Looking forward to the jungle final tonight ..hope Toff wins
Hope everyone stays warm and safe :A0 -
Morning all.
LW I hope you are feeling OK this morning, and TA and Elona too.
We have thick snow, still falling. I'm not going out but I think that public transport is not running or perhaps they will run a skeleton service once the main roads are a bit clearer, who knows! The planes are grounded too, that always happens with heavy snow. If this keeps up, I think the schools will not be open tomorrow. I will have to be at work though (I'm not a teacher, just that sentence running after the other one might confuse people).
I've hurt my back somehow, had a prolapsed disc many years ago and very occasionally it will just go out of whack. It usually lasts for only a few days at most.
OH has collected the newspaper, he wasn't going to go until I offered him the use of my snow boots. They aren't specific boots, just those yellowy work boots, 2 sizes too big, that DS grew out of years ago. Not smart, too big and they are heavy but they have very thick tread.
I'm going to read the .paper and then see if I can unspasm my back in a warm bath.
Keep warm and safe!I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -
Good morning all
Thank you for starting us off Hollyharvey
No snow but sleet here, very cold.
Didn't sleep too well last night but it gave me time to think. I'd been reading the Garden Fence thread and what a tough and heart breaking time some are having.
So I have made a list of what I really want, not material things, but things like I want to be happy, I want to stop getting upset about things I cannot change etc. Maybe sound obvious / stupid. Life is short and we don't know what is around the corner, so I'm going to try and appreciate all the little things.
Today's lunch will be casserole with dumplings, that will put a smile on DH's face, his favourite
Sorry to ramble on
Hope you all have a good day, keep warm and safeIf you walk at night no-one will see you cry.0 -
Morning everyone
hollyharvey - thanks for starting us off x
Hugs to those that want/need one x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
We've just eaten bacon and egg sandwiches, lovely they were too.
DH seemed to be in a much better frame of mind yesterday afternoon, so all was calm, and he's ok this morning too. The not arguing back and being quiet and getting on with what I want to do, really works with him. There's a quote that I found that I use every now and then, it goes like this, "it's not when my voice is raised that you should worry it's when i having nothing to say" . I think that's very true and very powerful. Get's the message across. It's silly as when we're good we're excellent, and work really well together as a team, but when it's bad it's awful.
Dinner last night was a naughty treat of pizza and chips - all eaten and enjoyed. Lunch today will be roast pork and the trimmings.
We have snow that started at 7am and is still falling, but it's already looking rather wet, forecasters say it'll fall until this afternoon, then we could get rain - rain is forecast for tomorrow too. It is laying at the moment. Don't think we'll be going far today.
Keep safe and well x

silver oldie - maybe have a search for positive quotes - there's some really good one's that make you think and I have a few that I use and keep in my mind, one is the one quoted in this post, and another is life is too short to be miserable, also several about not letting people ruin your day, also one that says, "sometimes it takes you heart longer to accept when your mind already knows". There's loads all having different meanings, it'd be worth a look, they help me alot.WEIGHTLOSS SINCE JUNE 2009 - 5 ST 2LB0
