Think my garage has screwed me over for warranty work

Sorry, but you do miss the point. The issue of costs, useless warranties, mark up or the like are completely irrelevant. The issue is why the OP took the decision. The consequences that then flowed from that decision could have been completely avoided if the garage had just said she needed to discuss the matter with her warranty provider. Instead it is alleged that they provided misleading and erroneous information. This information is what she acted upon and made her decision. Had the garage not (allegedly) done this then she would have had an opportunity to make a decision on factual information. Any other issues then become irrelevant. You cannot ignore the fact that according to the OP it is the advice/information from the garage that she relied upon and based her course of action upon. You cannot conveniently ignore the supposed fact that it was the misinformation from the garage that led to the rest of the issues arising. What those issues may be are just a symptom of the disease and are not relevant to the cure.0
