Bobblehat can I ask what you used to register with online? I've received my welcome letter with account details but no where does it state what the user name is.

My 1st letter dated 6/11/17 contained account details and said no further ID docs required.
Asked me to sign & return form to confirm prepopulated details and send opening cheque.

2nd letter dated 7/11/17 confirmed my link account details

    3rd letter dated 18/11/17 started
WELCOME TO YOUR NEW SAVINGS ACCOUNT followed by
    Account name
    account number
    Opening balance
    Username

    HTH
  • Thanks Badger09 it looks like my letter has had this missed off, as under Account opening balance it just states opening date and next interest date.

I also received the following letters that you have had:

1st letter saying no ID required and giving account number plus confirmation slip to send chq with - 6th Dec. Sent chq 15th when letter actually received.
2nd letter linked account confirmation - 7th Dec
3rd letter Account is ready to go with above details but no username - 16th Dec

So looks like I will just have to wait for another in the post.

I had the welcome letter about 2 weeks ago. Nothing since. I have 2 nationwide regular savers and 3 nationwide current accounts maturing on 16th Jan so if its not open and ready by the 15th ill leave it and go with Tesco.

My 3rd letter looked just like badger's ... including the Username.

Strangely, the Username was not taken from what I typed in during the online application, so I don't know what the significance of the latter is, as it does not feature in the log on process ...probably just used for the application. Likewise, the Access Token in the email before the Welcome letter seems to be used only to activate the account.
  • Thanks Clivep, I think I'll wait until Wed 27th before shunting the larger deposit into the BM account. It is sitting in a Virgin Double-Take at the moment earning a little less than the BM rate, but may require me to do a two-way shuffle using a TSB account linked to both the BM and Virgin accounts. I'm not sure if Virgin let you FP to a non-linked account (BM), so may have to use the TSB as an intermediate account.

I'm fairly sure Virgin will only let you xfer to either a Virgin account or to your linked account.
  • Thanks Badger .... I looked through the T&C's and they only mention FP to nominated acc & another Virgin acc ... but do not specifically say you can't FP to another account. I'm not familiar enough with their software yet to spot anything that would allow me to try that.

No matter, I'll have time to fiddle on Wednesday and can do the shuffle via TSB if needed. Just got to watch out for the "2 withdrawals a year" trap, in case I decide to keep the Virgin Double-Take. I guess the fast approaching new year will get me back to "2 Takes" again pronto!
