#15 Miss Pinky checking in.
What a year so far! I got married in January and then had a 2 week honeymoon cruise in the caribbean and had the most amazing time.
Now concentrating on doing up the kitchen, we were quoted almost 10k for a kitchen from B&Q (fitting included) which was undoable! Buying the doors and upgrading the worktops/splashback/light fittings etc we will be close to 3k but doing it bit by bit which is slightly frustrating but worth it to save 7k.
Anyway, keeping on track..... Mortgage...
As of the 1/3/18 the 'year' for overpayment has refreshed to mean I have till 1/3/19 to pay just over 8k. So to play it safe, I waited till this morning and made a 2k payment. I am reluctant to pay anymore this month due to the kitchen and it being a slightly longer month than normal between paydays but it means I am almost at 25% of the way there!!! :-)
So to clarify - Number 15 paying 2k today

#30 reporting for duty.
OP Jan/Feb = £770. The aim for the whole year is £3770 which should pay off two of the three parts of our mortgage but actually won't. I set up an op with the bank for £68.67 a month (rounding up my necessary payment) but they will spread this over the whole mortgage.
I hope to have a look at the details and work out how much extra exactly I need to raise if I'm to get to my initial aspiration of getting rid of those two smaller parts of the mortgage. Will come back and edit this post if I can get my head round the maths.I think a bit of sunshine is good for frugal living. (Cranky40)

Hi just dropping in to remind everyone that it is all worth it. I made my final payment today and it feels amazing.
I will feel even better when I get the amended title deeds without the mortgage company on them - apparently it can take up to nine weeks to get that done, but from my part - I paid their fees to get deeds sorted, so I'm done. No more money spent towards mortgage at all.
It has been a long journey for me, starting from over ten years ago when I realised how much money I was wasting on interest payments, but now that I'm done with that part of life, I can start looking forward my next target (early retirement).
Keep up the good work and don't listen to nae-sayers. I have had colleagues slagging me off for not living in the moment, but I now have more freedom than what they do....and TBH didn't scrimp that much that my life was a misery either.
The smallest overpayments you can make, make them. Going back the records my smallest OP was 80pbut it all adds up over the years, so make the OPs where you can.
Looking forward checking up your progress and posts! xxx0 -
