Poppyoscar hope your bro is ok.
To anyone who works in the NHS thank you for being there. I know it is an over worked and under funded service, yet many thousands of you turn up 24/7 and 365 days a year.
I feel that too many people forget that the NHS is based on need and not ability to pay.
So, it is not a perfect service, well neither are the people who work there, but as the 1st World War saying goes "if you knows of a better hole, then go to it"
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)

    Thank you tealady.

He was rushed into hospital in the middle of the night.

He had a blot clot and bleed in his brain.

The paramedics were there in minutes, he was taken to the local hospital and transferred to a specialist hospital and was being operated on by 5.30am.

They are keeping him sedated but will not know the extent of any damage for a while.

I should find out more today.

    Thank you Pollycat.

He is having a MRI scan tomorrow will hopefully know more then. But they have said they are pleased with him neurologically so far.

He opened one eye slightly today and moved one hand.

What would we do without these fantastic people and the work they do.

It saddens me that the vital job they do is not rewarded more.

Wish we could get paramedics in a few minutes, took 34 mins last time, they claim a median response time of 10mins 10secs but it seems longer!
Took over two hours for an ambulance when a young lad at our youth club broke his arm and went into shock!
No we are not in the middle of nowhere.

Maybe it just depends on exactly where you live, how busy they are at the time a 999 call is made and how they prioritise the calls they have?

Either way, hopefully they got to Poppy's brother in time.

You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time

Yes sometimes you may have to wait a while as they may be busy but they also work on a triage system, the emergency's like poppyoscars brother, heart attacks, strokes, unconscious casualties etc. will be dealt with first, most broken bones are not normally life threatening.

I work in a Sports complex and we get quite a few injuries, sometime ambulances have been there quickly other times it's been a while, as I said it all depends on the injury, for example, we had a emergency where we had to use CPR and shock a young lad twice with a defib to get his heart beating normally, the ambulance arrived very quickly, in fact it was only a minute after we did 2nd shock, I'm guessing they were quite close by? also emergency operator had been told casualty was unconscious and not breathing so it would have been moved above broken bones as a priority
