Yategirl..... she's probably a member here, I'd better watch out! I'll be back later with recipes. DD has reminded me I need to read meters. Had u/f heating put in the new bit and I'm trying to keep track so there are no nasty surprises!

    afternoon all.

    Everyone sounds so busy.

i pciked up some reduced fresh steak mince today in somerfield. so planning to make some spag bol for tea tonight. But i am gonna make home made pasta. Got the machine out, and the recipe. Seems simple enough. Just ahvign a cupa of tea and a wrap fr lunch before i start tho.

I've also got some frech stick dough in the bread maker. as i thought crusty french stick would go nicely with spag bol.

What colour have u painted then Dee ? i love painting ang getting ready waiting for something to arrive. u must of been gutted about the dented microwave.

i need to make some fairy cakes or something similar. as well as some sausages roll's.

all fairly easy things to make today.

Also i treated myself to an apple corer in morrisons. only 99p. i made stuffed apples other day for pudding, and i really struggled to core it. nearly chopped off my fingers using my brand new knife's. so figured it is a good investment if i keep my finger's. lol.

My resolution for 2008 is to declutter the house and get organised and get our moneysaving back on track :D
I'm in charge of the finances and things are looking good for us being debtfree by the end of this year..for the first time since we were married..:o
April 2009 we'll have been married for 20 years *scary*handface.gif

I would love for us to not only be debtfree but also have xmas paid for in advance, with a little bit left over for some new carpet/furniture that we desperately need.

I plan to concentrate on saving as much as I can again on our shopping bills and also by selling/recyclng/reusing everything we can indoors.

I'll set myself a target of selling 20 items on Ebay per week and this will now be our shopping money :D
I usually manage to sell my fabric ok and if it just sells at listing price I'll make £20 per week after fees anything else after that money is spent will be used from the stores keeping the incentive going as I can't do bare cupboards
Spring is coming and I'll be planting the first of our years crops soon tomatoes and peppers and a few aubergines...

Right... sat down a few minutes ago to do the recipe scale down for the birdseed..... lunch was leftover liver& onion from night before last and small amount of goat cheese and leek lasagne from last night. I managed to do these without shopping, so pleased.

I think the amounts for the birdseed are quite flexible, I would use normal porridge oats rather than the jumbo, I think they would be a bit chunky and chewy. You could incorporate your child's favourite cereal and I guess increase the cereal amount. You need to remember that it's at least 25 years since I made this, but I suspect it's how we used up odds and ends that we couldn't use in the kitchens in any other way. No turkey twizzlers there, we were well OS!

Amounts will depend on appetite of course, the original recipe said for 100, so more or less divided by 20. I guess it's going to be in the region of 4-6 portions.

    Birdseed

    180g porridge oats
    80g demerara sugar
45g marg (but I would use butter I think!)
25g breakfast cereal, book suggests rice crispies, cornflakes or puffed wheat.
    1 tsp cocoa powder

Melt marg and add to dry ingredients. Mix till fat is absorbed. Spread on baking tray and bake for 10 mins in a medium oven. Serve with thinnish custard.

    Sand in the Red Sea
    225g flour
    90g marg
    100g sugar

Rub fat into flour until it resembles crumble. Add sugar and mix. Bake on flat tin on medium heat for 10 minutes or until golden.

    Jam sauce -
160g cheap jam or HM if you have lots! (approx 1/3 jar)
    15g cornflour
approx 300ml water... to give correct consistency.
Mix cornflour with most of water and bring to the boil with the jam. Adjust consistency with remaining water if necessary.

Now to think of a meal for this evening with whatever we have in, It's far to nasty to go out just for shopping!

well i didn't get round to making any fairy cakes or sausages roll's.

but instead i made some apple braid dough. to make some iced bun's. In the time the dough was in the oven i found 2 large cooking apples in fridge. so thoguht i'll make soome stewed apples for freezer.

But when iced buns were cooked, i decied to fill the iced buns with an apple filling. then ice them,.

They were gorgeous. Thought i'd share another variation on the recipe.

that sounds lovely Jcr :D what a great idea! It just might work here too you know...they like apple doughnuts.
The kitchen is just plain white by the way nice and fresh
  • I made iced fingers too today. That apple braid dough is just so gorgeous. I've managed to get 8 huge iced fingers and 3 spicy currant buns out of it. (I add 3 tsp all spice and sultanas as kids love).

DH and DS1 now work together from this week and they shun the site canteen now and have my HM goodies instead. :D They went with Anzac biscuits from the Mary Berry's book yesterday. Wow they were beautiful and cheap.

Whats the first thing you're going to cook to christen your new cooker then, Dee?

Right have menu planned for this week using the stuff I know I have in the freezer and cupboards as I want to nip to tesco tomorrow when dropping the little one of at nursery (saves petrol than to do it another day). Only need a couple of bits so hoping to save quite a bit this week.

After that I am going to have a good delve in the freezers and make a list of all that I have in them both so that I can menu plan for the rest of the month, hoping to save some money and also clear some space as the upright needs defrosting.

Bought myself a kitchen chef in Aldi the other day and I am going to test run it on thursday making rainbow cakes with the little one. Purely for scientific reasons to make sure it works:rotfl:
