Anyone Still Waiting for their loan?

Ollieda

Nearing 4 weeks on now and I'm still waiting for my loan, just wanted to know if there's anyone else out there still waiting.
As it stands, without my loan I can't afford rent so I am currently homless at uni, and I have discovered there are lots of nice students out there who offer their sofas for a night or two (and one or two have actually cooked me dinner, i'm very greatful to them!)
Until last week I couldn't get any temporay loans from uni as I wasn't enrolled as the finance office had told me that I can't enrol until i pay tuition fees.....they forgot to tell me that i could enrol and set up a direct debit which would only be taken out in november if the loan hadn't come through by then! So now I can get a maximum of £50 a week (not enougth for rent still) but atleast it means I can eat! (and drink!!!)

Why did you apply so late?
The university did not 'forget' to tell you that you could set up a DD, you did not ask!Gone ... or have I?0 -

Come on thats not fair.......the OP is clearly harrassed, not many people would think to ask about DD.
I only started Uni last week, so I applied last week for my finance, so I am clearly waiting for mine which I would expect. The loan company have said another 6 weeks though.........:eek:0 -
I could accept a first year not knowing what they are doing, or someone that applied late, but the OP is at least in their second year - they should have applied months ago! xGone ... or have I?0

I applied at the beginning of April and I'm still waiting!! I live in the catchment area for this new pilot scheme and so far it's proved to be useless and horrendous to say the least. I can totally sympathise with Ollieda, except luckily I ain't homeless through late payments. However, I've been unable to buy any books and the cost of getting to uni and home again is taking it's toll.0

I'm in the same boat, my LEA is also in that pilot scheme and they took 10 days to return my call  and let me know that it will be another 4-6 weeks before my loan is processed, meanwhile I have bills to pay and 2 children to feed
please try to be a bit less judgemental dmg, people have circumstances which may be a bit less straightforward or complex than yours which results in delays and complications. The reason we fail so often is because we trade what we want in our lives for what we want at that moment0 -

Don't jump to conclusions matey, I applied way back before the end of last term. The loan I mentioned applying for in my post was the emergency loan you get from uni if your student loan hasn't come through.
And they did for get to tell me about a DD, when I asked and they said I had to pay my tuition fees and i obviously couldn't, they had plenty of chance to mention that I didn't have to actually pay up front. Unless its standard practice when asked to pay for something that you can't afford, to set up a DD to be taken out later in the hope someone else will pitch in the money before then, if thats the case then it is obviously my fault0 -
To be fair, the lesson to be learnt here is to apply before the deadline
I did so, as did my friends, we all got ours 3 days after we started uni.0 -
When was the deadline? I haven't got mine either.
I'm using my free overdrafts on student accounts, plus a 0% on purchases credit card, until it comes through. As long as I know my weekly budget and don't go over it I can pay it all off when i get the loan.0
