I am so desperately to have raised beds for flowers and veg.I tried two small ones with flowers and I think ti turned out ok. Trial and error I suppose
I never thought of using cardboard as a base...how does it help if you don't mind me asking? Is it like a compost?
I took it as the cardboard being used for "lasagne gardening" (google for details). Not a thing I've ever tried myself - but sounds like a feasible idea to me.0 -

I really like the sound of your OH's wardrobe and entirely agree with him about logos and pictures. I mostly avoid patterns, too, but not always.
A restricted colour palette, and favouring certain styles which suit lifestyle and are easy to maintain seem eminently sensible to me.
Many a person has commented that, by putting certain restrictions on their choices, they ended up better dressed than before.
This is the reaction I get after clearing our wardrobes years ago we only replace when worn this left me with better quality clothing other than my outdoor work wear, I often get comments that I dress too well on days I'm doing nothing, but what was the point of keeping nicer clothes for going out when I rarely do. The plus side of a minimal wardrobe is the option of more ethical clothing.
If your sitting on the fence about reducing clothing the film True Cost is a real eye opener

The Simplicity Cycle: Returning to Paring Down to Find Your True Needs : zen habits
I just saw this today on Zen Habits.0 -
I think it may be well into 2018 before we,re able to start our simpler life! My husband, bless him, went out at the crack of dawn this morning to do our bulk Christmas grocery shop in advance of the rush and returned home with enough food to start a food bank on top of our already well stocked freezers and store cupboards.
I’m hugely grateful that he does the shopping but I wish I could impress on him that our bulk storage stocks need to run down to “empty” so that I can stock rotate and prevent dry goods going stale.
We tend to differ in our eating ideologies. He always likes to have his favourite foods on hand to ensure we never run out. I take the view that we should use up what’s in the store cupboard regardless so that really slows down the rate at which some of our food stock gets used up !
I don,t think we’re operating efficiently at the moment. Our full length food storage cupboard is so full we can,t see even half of what,s what’s in it. I suspect new stock is being bought because it,s easier to use that than spend ten minutes emptying and repacking the shelves to find an older version! I think we need to spend some quiet time over Christmas making a dry goods inventory. My husband would be shocked but I think unless we go through this exercise , he,s not going to realise exactly how much stuff and how many duplications we have !0 -
Hi everyone
Just pressed a button and lost my post!! Anyway, Fuddle that's a brilliant suggestion regards plastic milk bottles and caps that I will be doing down the lottie.
2018 is going to be more frugal and simpler for me as I want my footprint to be smaller as I am a size 7 1/2 it's already big enough!!
