No Brocante's locally Mrs SD ? well worth going and taking some stuff if there is When my brother sadly died almost two years ago his son loaded lots of odds and ends up and sold them off at a local brocante near to Ruffec where he lived. The french love them and will buy almost anything, my brother had some very rusty gardeen furniture and his son loaded the trailer up with it as an afterthought before he went and sold the lot for 70 euros. I would have tipped it myself and to me it looked clapped out and extremely rusty0

I'm settling in for Hugh this evening. Although my diet doesn't now need simplifying my DH needs a bit more of a kick up the arris and I'm hoping that Hugh's track record in getting people shocked and pumped for change will get him more on board.
If it works life in the kitchen will be a lot easier for me.
I'm struggling with the cluttered window sills full of seedlings and small plants. The I have a green house but that is still cold. They're stressing me out visually but at least they're useful items!0 -
Hi fuddle, I totally agree with you about seedlings i have mine in the conservatory, not warm enough yet to keep them in the greenhouse although on the plus side at least i will have tomatos which taste like what they are supposed to and not cardboard/supermaket versions :-)

Nothing yet RR but the storms are always a bit hit or miss
Your memories of school French are at least useful. I'm still wondering if I'll ever need to inquire about my aunt's pen!!! :rotfl::rotfl:

When I was learning Dutch, the farmer had a lion in his garden!!!Everything will be alright in the end - and if it's not alright, it's not the end ........0 -

The signing is on Friday, but the owners to be are letting us stay until the end of May. We are hoping to be out by the 20th - so if stuff doesn’t sell it will be taken to the Tip
DSis is being brutal - 9 trips to Tip with the car full to the gunnels, 5 motorbike trips to bottle Bank & 3 trips to clothing bank :rotfl: 6 wheelie bins emptied, 4 bedrooms worth of furniture sold & a few sales of toys, books, garden furniture, ornaments, garden tools etc.
Only problem is that we seem to start a room but not finish it - :rotfl: until today :rotfl:
I will not get downhearted, I will not get downhearted, I will not get downhearted, :rotfl:
Will update after the weekend when we are hoping that lots of people turn up for house clearance (Vide Maison)
MrsSD
Oh Mrs SD, I am so jealous, please send some selling vibes my way; 3 years waiting so far and I really want to get back to the UK for familly reasons.
Still ,I took another carload of 'stuff' to Emmaus yesterday and sold another piece of furniture, but it's difficult to do much while I still have to live here and deal with the house and farm.
But, I've decided that this is my year for it all to happen.:rotfl:Aiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

I've just finished reading through this (Reading about Christmas on a sunny day was rather weird) it's been a great inspiration to me, I really need to get decluttering. I tried the decluttering thread but kinda couldn't keep up with the counting there, although it did give me a kick start.
The craft room and the bedroom are the main areas I want to get sorted, then move into the kitchen.
I seem to be making more mess as I do it though, I now have piles of things everywhere, that I want to keep but haven't yet found a proper home for.0 -
Kacie- try the kondo thread, it's about only keeping what you love, rather than throwing what you don't!
And although the book says to do categories, they can be broken down into smaller ones if you are overwhelmed.
It's the best thing I've ever done. My house is tidy, easy to keep clean everything has a place to go, its addictive I now look for stuff to throw all the time!!!!Focus on contribution instead of the impressiveness of consumption to see the true beauty in people.0 -
I did look into that, but I didn't like it, just realised I'm very emotionally attached to objects. I've kinda found a method that so far is working for me.
Today I've gone through all the envelopes I've kept from letters received and cut off all the stamps for charity, now the envelopes are in the recycling. It's only a small thing as I've been out all day, but it's just dong something with stuff that I've kept for years0 -
 dND, it took us 8 years to sell:eek: but now the papers are signed (2 hours in the notaire’s office
) I am sending selling vibes your way - you will sell up, you will find a buyer, this will happen in 2018
Kacie, good luck with the decluttering - whatever method you choose will be the right one for youPlease try not to get disheartened by the initial mess you just need to remember your end goal - be it less stuff or tidy rooms or even a place for everything & everything in its place :rotfl:
My sentimental bits are currently in 3/4 boxes & I will sort them out when I have sorted the two cupboards of Doom & The Understairs Cupboard of DOOM :rotfl:
JackieO, my DSis doesn’t know if there are any brocantes so we are relying on Faceb**k market place & the Vide Maison BUT we now have almost 3 weeks before my DB turns up with the van so we will investigate:o Thanks for the info.
ploppy57, hope your veg delivery has inspired youSometimes you can just feel bleugh but one moment of joy can get you kick started:D & back on the track that you have chosen
We have managed to sell quite a few pieces of furniture & we are hoping the weekend will mean a deluge of people Not rain :rotfl: turning up to buy lots of bits & lots of furniture & reserve the furniture we are using.:rotfl: The cooker is already sold but we are being allowed to use until we leave :rotfl:

You sound so like me Kacie.
I did what you are doing, letting go of the absolute rubbish while recycling the good bits. I then used a bit of Kondo, but like you said, I found I was really emotionally attached to my things and that made making decisions about what to let go, very difficult.
I now use what I call my'shaving' method. I relinquish a bit at a time and move things out to a 'to go' pile as and when I decide it can go. It's easier for me as I can change my mind but having reduced the first bits I now find it easier and easier to decide what I really want or need.
In many ways, identifying that I had a problem and working through that was the hardest bit. Emmaus (a charity chain in France) has now received 2 large car loads of items and one large trailer load has been on a trip to the tip - and that's not counting what I've been able to burn here (I have a small farm, so lots of space for a big bonfire)
Onwards and upwards, you'll get there:T
