Hi! Its my brother's birthday soon and he loves Japanese animation. I don't think he has many dvds and I would like to get him a couple to go alongside the pressies I have already got. Trouble is I haven't a clue where to start! what is a good deal for a complete film or boxed set? I don't mind risking if he has it already, but would like to get something good!0

You can get Bleach 1:1 and 1:2 for £9 and £8 respectively (check find-dvd). That's very good value for money for 20 episodes.
Another good deal is volume 1 of Death Note (2 DVD) for £8 at Amazon. It contains the first 8 episodes and Death Note is one of the best series out there - A bargain at £1 per episode.
The other bargains that come to mind are also Manga Entertainment releases - The various Naruto sets and the two 7 DVD Ghost in the Shell box sets for £17.99 each. Sadly, Naruto 1:1-2:2 all have awful subtitles (making it poor viewing for fans who watch in Japanese) and the first Ghost in the Shell set (1st Gig) has serious subtitle lip-sync issues.
Hope that helped.
My AOL order is on-hold because my credit card was declined (!?). I've had to make another order (asking them to cancel my first) but I'm 99% sure I got my details right the first time...0 -
Thanks for taking the time to reply Aionic! :T
Ordered volumes 1 and 2 of Death Note - I will save the second for Christmas!0 -
Sendit.com and The Hut/Dixons/Asda/Lovefilm/Currys (all 5 drop prices together) are having sales. Lots of Manga Entertainment DVDs have dropped to the lowest they've ever been.
Naruto the Movie: Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow - £4.28
Ghost in the Shell / Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence (3 DVDs) - £6.89
Karas: Part 1 and 2 (3 DVDs) - £6.89
Mär: Vol.1 (3 DVDs) - £8.73
Tactics: Series 1 Part 1 (3 DVDs) - £8.93
Tactics: Series 1 Part 2 (3 DVDs) - £8.93
Voltron: Defender Of The Universe: Collection 1 - Blue Lion (Limited Edition Steelbook?, 3 DVDs) -- £8.93
She: The Ultimate Weapon - £9.89 (7 DVDs)
Otogi Zoshi: Complete - £12.89 (7 DVDs)
Bleach: Series 1 (5 DVDs, slimpack set) - £14.93
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - 1st Gig (7 DVDs) -- £14.93
Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex - 2nd Gig (7 DVDs) -- £14.93
My apologies for not reporting these when I saw the Find-DVD email yesterday - I was too lazy to do so.
I already own Bleach (paid the same price for a sealed copy on eBay) and I also already own both GitS sets (paid £10 each for used copies). I've ordered Karas and She: The Ultimate Weapon.
On a manga note, TBD are selling the newely released Death Note box set for £39 - That's £3 per volume and a free box + 80 page booklet.
Link: Death Note Box Set (Volumes 1-13) - £39.25
I've known about the price since the 27th. I waited until linking others to it to see if my set arrived damaged - The set arrived in pristine condition.

'My Neighbour Totoro' is usually the title people give when asked what film they'd recommend for younger viewers. It's got a universal age rating and nothing that would upset a child.
Sadly, however, there aren't any cheap prices at the moment, the cheapest being £7.50. Find-DVD is the best site to use to search for and compare DVD prices.0 -
This is only a mini-bargain but, if you order two other DVDs from the Amazon 3 for £10 selection, you can get The Place Promised in Our Early Days for £3.33/4.

Alternatively, you could get the Shinkai Collection for £7.99 from Play. That's probably the better choice if you don't already own the other movie because you get a lovely booklet with the box set.0 -
Both of my Sendit orders arrived today. I'm very happy with the condition of both. She: The Ultimate Weapon looks very good - I'll probably watch it in a day or two.
Also, I typed up a lengthy review of the Death Note box set linked to above since there wasn't (and still isn't) any other review for it on the net. If anyone wants to get some more information before paying £40, click the link below to view my review.

I'm a little disappointed that no-one replied to my post about the Sendit sale (which is still on-going) when a thread I posted about it on HUKD managed to hit 216 degrees. It looks like there isn't any interest on here (or the other smaller forums I post anime deals on), so I think in future I might just post only on HUKD and AUKN.0
