Hi, what are peoples opinions...
The house we are moving to is literally 0.01 miles away, however we have a fair few large items (washing machine, dishwasher, fridge freezer, tumble drier plus 2 beds and furniture) husband is convinced we don't need removals but i'm very worried this will end up in disaster ..
What are your opinions is it worth the money or am i being a pessimistic so and so and we can just hire a van and somehow get it inside ?

Depends on the house sizes you are moving from and to, plus if you've got to be out of yours on completion day.0

Are you selling and buying, or moving between rentals, or moving from rented to bought, or something else?
If you're selling and buying, you really need to...
- Empty the whole property into the truck in one go.
- Then wait for completion.
- Then empty the truck into the new property.
Will the van be big enough?
You can't really do multiple trips.0 -
We moved from a 2 bed house by hiring a van (well small lorry) as we were only going 0.5 mile up the road - took 3 trips as we spaced it out in the lorry. I shifted all the clothes, kitchen stuff and bits and bobs in the car a few evenings before hand as we had the luxury of owning the new one before we needed to be out of the old one. Between myself, husband and parents we shifted it all in a day. Biggest thing was a sofa, but we had bookcases, tv's, computers, double bed, fridge, freezer, loads of heavy garden pots and 100kg washing machine! A sack truck is your friend - £20 off Amazon.
I would say if there are just the two of you then you'd probably manage so long as you're strong and fit enough. Best if you can rope a few friends in. But honestly I thought we'd take better care of my precious oak furniture without denting it than any removal man would!0 -
We've moved 5 times in 30 plus years, all but one of those was DIY. Two of those were while I was pregnant and one was with a month old baby. We had a friend help with at least one DIY move and we hired a small Luton top van every time. It was fine. The only reason we didn't do it again was a dog, 2 children and a 3 bed house full of stuff accumulated over 12 years.
How big a house are we talking about? Do you have friend or two who could help.0 -
I have helped people move several times. If you don't mind getting really really tired and aching the next day you can do a self removal. If you want to end up fresh the next day pay someone else to do it.0

If it's literally 16 metres away, you really don't need to hire the van.0 -
This is likely to be harder work than moving further afield!!
At least when you move a fair distance, you get a bit of a rest in the van on the way to the new house...
If you are young and fit and have lots of young fit friends who can come round to help for the price of a beer and a bag of chips, then go for it.
But I would be contacting removal firms and seeing how much they would charge before making any decisions. No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -

We are moving from a 2 bed to a 4 bed, just more concerned that we could be sat waiting for keys and that wouldn't be ideal if we have to take the van more than once to ferry the larger items...0

and not likely anyone would help tbh plus we have a 7 year old in tow and 3 cats !0
