Negotiating mid contract with sky

Options
I am 6 months into an 18 month contract for sky tv. I have a 67% discount, so no problem there.

The problem is though that I want fibre broadband as standard broadband is too slow for streaming in our house. Sky say I need to re contract my sky tv to get any discounts. This would mean I would end up paying the full amount for tv for the last 6 months. It's a huge amount.

Sky said not to worry just ring up when the discounts finish and see what is available.

My issue is 2 things...

1. Is this a sales ploy to get me to agree to the broadband, and in 12 months I will be left paying vast amounts with no sign of a discount, as I am committed to an 18 month contract

2. If they do discounts mid contract, what sort of discount might I looking at. Again any discount might be so small to still leave the monthly amount prohibitively expensive.

I really don't want to commit to the unknown. My bank balance is not healthy enough for that!

Many thanks

Can you get fibre internet cheaper elsewhere? You don't have to have Sky Fibre with Sky TV, feel free to split them up.

Current offers here, including one from Vodafone £20 a month, 18 month contract up to 38Mbps, or BT at just over £21 a month with £150 cashback.

The offer sky were making was £6.01 for up to 45 (I think) mbps or £11.01 for up to 75mbps, both of which are quite tempting offers, but currently I am looking at alternatives

Sky do up to 38Mb(unlimited & limited) & 76Mb(unlimited) fibre and those prices are amazing, are you sure that's not how much more you will be paying than you are already?

What is the actual breakdown of the prices for the TV & BB packages?

Currently pay £38.48 for entertainment package, movies, boxsets and multiroom.

This will go up to £78 on month 18

Hence my reluctance to recontract and lose my discounts for the final 6 months. The discounts of course don't get extended with the new contract. The original end date remains for them

Sky are doing a black Friday offer of £13.99 off the broadband cost, but only if the TV contract is extended

Is that literally just on Friday because my offers just show the same price as new customers (minus the £50 card ) starting at £20 for limited fibre?

Speak to them, it's not an advertised rate. Facebook messenger chat people and phone based customer services are offering it

Do you really need movies? Boxsets?

Most boxsets are either on Netflix or Amazon. I pay randomly for stuff on Amazon, PAYG. And I pay £6 odd for Netflix. The basic channels I get through Sky, £11 a month for basic Sky channels with recording. Broadband is £38/month for 76mb/sec Plusnet. I work from home so I need the fibre and for Netflix, sons' gaming.

Maybe bail from Sky when needed and mix and match with other providers. Sky have serious competition with Netflix etc so they will cave in if you push hard. Ive done it.

I don't need them and will cancel when the price increases, which is why I asked my original question, Sky said I could negotiate mid contract when my price increases. My mobile provider won't allow me to renegotiate, so does sky really allow people to renegotiate or was it a sales ploy to meet a target?

Ahh, is this one of the 'discount for 12 months but on an 18 month contract but you're welcome to call us at 12 months and see what we can do for you' jobs? Never a good idea in my opinion. Yes you can call them however the ball is very much in their court because if you don't like what they offer with a new 12 or 18 month contract then you'll still have to pay full price for the remaining 6 months regardless.

As above, they started this ploy when they tried out the 10months on offer in a 12 month contract, telling people to call at the end of the 10 months. As was warned on here you are quite free to call (in fact at any time) to ask for a discount, but they have you under contract so are unlikely to give one without a further commitment on the customer's part.

I used too have Sky broadband and tv, then moved to PlusNet for broadband. The latter's service wasn't very good at first, but it has improved and when, after 12 months, I mentioned returning to Sky I got a good deal, so it seems a good idea to have separate providers .

My Sky tv offer being up, I have left, so just have broadband with PlusNet and Freeview tv. (No phone calls or other offers, since switch off).
