Sadly, no, you both have to be FTBs to qualify for the "discount."Every generation blames the one before...

I find these people saying 2 years too late unbelievable. Two years ago property prices were much lower on the whole. Would they rather pay more now but have less stamp duty? If house prices haven't gone up in their area they still will be two years closer to paying off their mortgage. The last point often forgotten is they have lived in here own home rather then rented. Some people just want endless hand outs it seems.0

I’m feeling pretty neutral on this.
Our new build, purchased for £349,995. Developer incentive of £5k to spend as we wanted, we opted for stamp duty, with £2.5k left to pay by us.
Completed three weeks ago.
Darn, could we have used that £5k some other way? Overpriced developer fittings, flooring? (We paid £2800 for floor third party, developer wanted £7500)?
Or should we have waited? No; similar houses are now on sale for 25k more, and there is no 5k incentive offer.
I’m glad we bought when we did0 -
Advise please! we completed on the 17th. I spoke to our conveyancer late today after noticing a 30 day deadline for completing the SDLT form. She advised me that they usually take 10-15 days to process and pay these from completion but as a company they are unsure what policy they are adopting in this situation. Now my question is if they have not paid and completed this form/payment is it still due? Anyone else in a similar position?0

It says:
"Married couples & civil partnerships
For the purpose of property ownership, married couples and civil partnerships are seen as one unit. This means that if one person already owns a property, any subsequent residential purchase by either person will be seen as an additional property for both individuals."0 -
I have a question. We are in the process of buying a house. My wife is a first time buyer but I am not. Does this still apply?0

I know no one has a crystal ball, but how long do you think this is likely to last? Only I'm planning to buy in June. If it gets reversed at the next budget I might cry0
