    Your stamp duty liability is incurred at completion. The 30 day window for payment is irrelevant in this scenario.

    The next budget is not until Autumn 2018. The change to schedule was announced last year.
  • The cap at 500k is a bit gutting. Doesnt go a long way to helping out the first time buyers in London, not very much on the market below that in the areas we're buying, and thats zone 6!
  • Quick question, I think I know the answer. We have exchanged on a new build and waiting to complete (couple of weeks away). The builder agreed to pay the solicitor fees and stamp duty. Is there any chance we could go back to the builder and get some money off something else? I’m guessing no as we have exchanged contracts?

    it's only for first time buyers and you're married so pay up or perhaps consider divorce and get married after your ex-wife has purchased the house in her name?:D

    sorry but no sympathy at all. If you can afford 500k then you can afford "a bit" of tax FTB or not.

    a 500k property is way beyond most people's dreams, let alone reality.

    I think it's a great idea, too late for us now but house prices have risen! Stamp duty is a real barrier to people trying to get on the housing ladder.

    They mean theyve passed the SDLT money over to their solicitor.

    Since it wont apply, it will be returned when the solicitor does the sums at completion, though i think it would be reasonable to ask for it back now.
