Tickly Cough Driving Me NUTS!

Anyone got any remedies to help stop a tickly cough. I have been coughing incessantly all day until I am nearly sick - its driving me mad and its exhausting. Cough medicine doesn't seem to do the trick and neither do cough sweets.
p.s I absolutely loathe honey so any suggestions without honey would be appreciated!
