3 trying to make me pay for unused service

Hi all, first time I'm posting so hope I'm doing everything right.
I've just received a letter from a solicitors saying that my details have been passed onto them from Roxborough Debt Agency because I owe Hutchison 3G £120. This has been going on intermittently for about 3 years. I canceled my contract with them when I went onto a new mobile company and didn't have any more to pay and so thought that was that. I then got a letter from the saying they wanted this money so I phoned and they said that it was on their system that I had requested to cancel my contract but it had never been activated. I was told this was finished.
After a year or so I got a letter from Roxbrough and went through the same thing, and thought it was all done.
Now this has arrived. I'm pretty sure that I've missed out on letters because I'm a student living away from home and even when I gave them my new address they sent a letter to my home address. Some letters may never have been forwarded to me.
As this is a precursor to legal action I'm obviously very worried. I tried to contact 3 but they said they couldn't access my account.
What should I do next? I don't have the money to get a solicitor. Is there any chance of me not having to pay them as I don't owe it.]
Many thanks

i would write a letter to 3
and see what happens then
letters usually work better than phone calling0 -
Sorry to hear about your dilemma m8, but it sounds just about right for 3. Nearly the same happened to me a few years back, where i signed a 12 month contract, and after not being happy with the service tried to cancel when this was up. Only to be told it was originally a 18 month contract and if i was going to cancel i had to pay £130 odd pound per phone (i had 2 contracts). Obviously i tried phoning and nobody knew what to do. i tried asking for the address for the complaints dept but was told there wasnt one, all the time was being advised just pay it because they wont let you get away with it (whoever they are). I then tried trading standards, but was out of luck as i had thrown my copy of the original contracts away. So in the end i paid as much as i could, and the rest was transferred to a colllection agency.
So basicly i would just pay it, and offer them £20 a month or something.

Herein lies your problem, If you cancelled your contract, you should've asked for written confirmation.Well life is harsh, hug me don't reject me.0
