Regarding BitComet, Should I get rid of it, Browntoa?
Is there a safer downloader that lists all of the past downloads. This function is useful in case of a need to re-install, I find.

Download either AVG AS or Super Anti Spyware and run them in safe mode.
If you cannot enter safe mode run them in normal mode first.

I also note the following programs in your programme list - ViewPont Player and Limewire
Viewpoint Manager is considered as foistware instead of malware since it is installed without users approval but doesn't spy or do anything "bad". This changed from what we know in 2006 read this article:

I suggest you remove the program. Click on start > run > and then paste the following into the "open" field: appwiz.cpl and press OK. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following if they exist: Viewpoint, Viewpoint Manager, Viewpoint Media Player.
Lastly - Please post a new Hijack log
The most current version of Limewire is reported to include spyware. LimeWire 4.9.28 is clean(Older and newer version may not be). Chances are junk was bundled with this product even if you paid for it. If you are going to use p2p file sharing, I suggest you choose a safe program from here: http://p2p.malwareremoval.com/.
If you use P2P software, make sure you are careful about what you open and what P2P program you install. Malware is all over the P2P networks and the programs often come bundled with Adware and Spyware.

thats your call....it's the route that most infections come from
if you want to use it see if you can set you antivirus to scan downloads, or download to a specific folder and scan all files before openingEx forum ambassador

anything that is suss, goes as far as I am concerned. Not worth ANY risk.

Before I remove Bitcomet, is the program itself the problem or is it just a case of what I download?

It's what you download. Always have your anti-virus software active and scan with one of the online virus scanners to double check.
