Your log looks okay - what were your original problems and are they sorted?
I would run a few online anti virus scanners - Kaspersky and something like F Secure just to be on the safe side0 -

OK.
Presently running Kaspersky.
The problems I had were VERY slow boot up and then continual lock-ups and great difficulty getting on the net.
After running all of the progs that you suggested I still had a couple of probs but then ran Registry Mechanic which seems to have solved the problem which was causing IE to crash frequently.
I still feel that the system is limping rather than running smoothly but it's a lot better now, thanks to the suggestions by you and Browntoa.
I was thinking that a Format & re- install of XP was going to be needed. (Not the best of ideas as I can't seem to locate the software from Dell) and I hate doing that - it takes most of the day, then more hours setting everything up correctly.
At the moment Critical areas and Memory are showing as clean in Kaspersky. about to run the 'My Computer' check.
I do wonder if all of the software that I have on the machine is part of the problem and especially are all of the virus progs/firewall Etc compatible with one another.
Your thoughts?
EDIT: just to add - when I just clicked 'REPLY' to post this, windows took approx 30 seconds to post it. That's the type of problem that I am often getting - and yes, I do have ADSL operating at about 6.5."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

Slow boot up problems are usually resolved by disabling startup items (msconfig), however your O4 items look okay.
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [HotKeysCmds] C:\WINDOWS\system32\hkcmd.exe
could be fixed, unless you use any of the hot keys.
Defragging the hard drive a couple of times might help. Download PageDefrag to defragment system files.
For investigating slowness once it's booted and settled down, bring up Task Manager (Ctrl+Shift+Esc) and watch it for several minutes for processes using high CPU. The C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe in your log (2 of them, not sure why) is Windows Update and known to run at 99% CPU.0 -
Thanks for that Chippy.
Will delete hotkeys prog (Wouldn't know how to use them, anyway)
O.K. done that.
How do I get rid of the update proces?
I can't seem to find it in the MSCONFIG/Start listing."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -

Just Googled and it's normal to have multiple instances of C:\WINDOWS\system32\wuauclt.exe running.0 -
Ok.
this is the CPU usage list."Unhappiness is not knowing what we want, and killing ourselves to get it."Post Count: 4,111 Thanked 3,111 Times in 1,111 Posts (Actual figures as they once were))Women and cats will do as they please, and men and dogs should relax and get used to the idea.0 -
That looks OK - not much happening there.
Control Panel - Security Centre. In 'Manage Security Settings for', click Windows Firewall and make sure Off is selected. You don't need 2 firewalls running.0 -
Ok. Chippy M. That looks like the lot then..
Seems back to normal again so a big CHEERS for everyones input.
