    Morning

Thank you Cherry. My last statement doesn't mention I'd there's a cap on the amount of charges. I guess I'll find out tomorrow.

    No reactions yet!

I'm up and cleaning. Well I've swapped the washing and wrote my lists :rotfl: smalls are all still in bed. Waiting for 8am so I can call the HA about the boiler.

Hope you all have a lovely day

    Friday money update.

Bill account - now has enough for the direct debits to go out going forward without going overdrawn. As long as I don't touch it this week and I cover the bank charges for the many returned payments over the last month. 11 payments failed.

'Spend account' is currently empty. This from next Friday has £50 a week transferred in. This is to cover everything else that isn't a bill. Food/toiletries/school etc.

I have wrote a super list of things to stock up on slowly going forward to build a small 'reserve' for the squeaky times/unplanned things.

Now I need to get on with my 'to do' list. Smalls are still in bed

Delurking to say you are doing so well.

Just a suggestion but if you call your bank and explain that you were setting up new direct debits and it got confusing with the amounts they were taking and is there anything the bank can do about the bank charges. They may reduce the bank charges, as a one off gesture of goodwill.

It may be worth a try.

Was just going to suggest the same. As a former bank manager (don’t shoot me!), albeit for another bank, I know that the rule is usually to give back at least 2 charges as a gesture of good will if you haven’t had any refunded in the past 12 months. Xx

Excellent suggestion, certainly worth a try. I think banks can be a bit more kindly if they hear from you that there's been an issue and you are aware and doing something about it.

  • We have our mortgage with the Nationwide and they are always very pleasant, friendly and have treated us fairly over the years. So I think it is definitely worth explaining your situation and asking if they would waive ALL the charges as a one off good will gesture. They may very well say yes.

I hope littlest DD is less chesty this morning and your boiler gets fixed, it sounds like it needs replacing!

Thank you I called them after I posted to see what the cap was if there is one. For anyone else interested the cap is £35. I will call back and see if I get someone nice enough to lower what I owe :o

    Thank you

Oh and I finally got through to the HA. The gas man is coming today before 8pm - although they did ask if I could manage until next Thursday first!

Have started my to do list but stopping for a cup of tea
