I've given ID to paypal before, it's all to do with the money laundering regulations, a change to your account (changing your debit card) will probably have triggered the request. It's required by law. I think it's also triggered by the amount you pay in/withdraw so if you've been withdrawing a lot over the last 12 months or so, that might have triggered it too.
You could try a citizen card https://www.citizencard.com/ It's a recognised ID card and cheaper than getting a provisional driving licence. I'd check to see if they accept it first though. It's £15 which I know is money you don't need to be spending. A provisional driving licence is £34.
You won't be able to use Paypal at all if you don't send ID, so it will depend on how important it is to you."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee0 -

It is important that we know where we come from, because if you do not know where you come from, then you do not know where you are, and if you don't know where you are, then you don't know where you are going. If you don't know where you're going, you're probably going wrong.

Has anyone had to verify their identity to pay pal but doesn't have photo ID? I have tried speaking to them but they just keep telling me I need photo ID but I don't have anyI feel like I'm going round in circles and they've limited my account until I provide it! Nothing has changed on there other than I needed to update my bank card as I lost the one that was on there
Paypal UK has a limit of €2,500 received before they ask you to verify your ID under EU Money Laundering Regs. You should be able to provide your NI Number as there is no legal obligation for anybody to have photo ID in the UK. On their forums someone asked this question in 2016 and the response was not helpful.Save £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £9586.01 out of £6000 after August (158.45%)

They won't except NI number, I have sent it and birth certificate and council tax/tenancy agreement plus benefit letters. They said it has to be photo ID.
Had another lovely dayWe went to our appointments, they where done on time today
The Sun was lovely and warm so we spent nearly 2 hours sat in the park. I read my book and she sat eating her pack lunch and playing. It was lovely, we had some funny conversations about where bugs and things come from and why. Older two collected from school and DD had another fall *rolls eyes* Her legs are a right state! She's in a dettol bath now.
Today was a NSD.
Need to bake some flapjacks and biscuits for snacks so the fruit etc lasts a until Friday easier.
E D F still haven't got back to me so I will be on the phone first thing in the morning after school run. We don't need to be out till a little later tomorrow.

Evening,
Everyone's in bed
Tracked my tax credit form for hardship and its on step 2 of 4. Some movement at least
My TV license is paid until the 22nd November, From then it is £5.60 a fortnight. Not weekly.
EDF are coming to switch my meters. Just awaiting a date and timeThey seem to think the DD for duel fuel should be £140 a month. I must remember to regularly submit the readings. I do not what to get behind. Is it monthly/weekly to do the readings to make sure I don't fall behind? They said someone will read them every 3 months but that seems such a long time with chance to get a big bill?

Meter readers don't come out every three months. I haven't seen one in years!
Submit readings monthly as a minimum, but it's probably worth you doing them weekly so that you can keep track of how much you're using and not get a nasty surprise. If they give you an in home display then it'll help remind you all how much different things use.0 -
I haven't seen a meter reader for years either! I would do meter readings weekly as you don't want to be undercharged and then get a big bill.
I agree with Jwil that a Citizencard is the cheapest way to get photo id. It's very useful to have photo id as you do get asked for it sometimes. You don't have to renew it either so it doesn't cost you money going forward.

Hi W, good news on the tv license. :T
I try to send my meter readings weekly & minimum every 2 weeks to keep on top of it & reduce the dreaded estimated usage bills.Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. Car loan 1 £11,174, Car loan 2 £5,532, CC 0% BT £780. Debt Free Diary to try & keep spending in check.0 -
That's good that you're paid up with the TV license. Does that mean you'll be £5.60 a week better off between now and then?
We definitely have our meters read but only once a year although we read them ourselves at least once a month. I agree with Greenbee and HHD about keeping on top of them so you know where you're up to.
What does the hardship element mean on tax credits - will you get more? If so, I hope steps 3 & 4 are processed extra quickly for you.xx
