  • Oh here we go the high horse post..lol

I did wonder how long that would take...very predictable.

Building sites..night clubs working the doors....just to name two environments i've worked, sadly its a world away from a cosy office where Ralf annoys Roger by not putting the milk back in the fridge,so Roger writes a memo and everyone toes the line.

In some work places you need to have stand up for yourself or you wont last 5 minutes, you have shown me you dont have the first clue nor any experience working the type of places i've worked...so no you dont and wont ever understand.

I stand by my original post and yes there is 100% occasions you've gotta do something nice shiny shoe wearing people like you would disapprove of...you trying telling a Ground worker there a cheeky chap and wag your finger at him,you would be laughed off site never to return or if you've peed him off then you would be laying on ya !!!! wondering what the hells happen.

You believe in what you believe is right or wrong and i"ll do the same....;)

Ill thumbs up you because ive worked in environments like that before (when i was younger), and I ended up having to fight, i won btw though i suspect he may have gone easy on me given that he was about 10 years my senior, we became good friends after though.

The thought of something like that happening where I am now, sacked in a second. IMO if two people want to fight, go to your local boxing gym and jump in the ring, if you're feeling extra generous, do it for charity.
  • I still don't know what "grip my shoot" means.

Since leaving the Isle of Man over 30 years ago I've never heard this idiom.

    Not really no.

A healthy slap on the ar5e of a passing female colleague is of course to be encouraged.

    You should try it.

its a bowdlerised version of "grips my 5h1t" to get past the MSE swear filter

Errrr... Is that some kind of "euphemism"? I Really don't know what you mean! Try English?

If someone I didn't want to be "gripping my shoot" did so, I'd be complaining to the police first.

    Thumping them would be secondary...

As for your "no troll" suggestion, that's clearly not the case, no reasonable person would ever need to ask this question.

Maybe I could be considered unreasonable, but I just wanted peoples perspective on circumstances at work that drive people to lash out at others. And I did get that from most responses so cheers to those that answered that way. Such stuff can happen and we are only human. For many people there is a breaking point, and it's where that point lies which is to be regarded as reasonable or not. It will vary from one individual to another, and from one circumstance to another. It's not black and white.
Sometimes my advice may not be great, but I'm not perfect and I do try my best. Please take this into account.

Assaulting someone when you weren't defending yourself is pretty black and white. It's unacceptable and criminal.
Don't listen to me, I'm no expert!

OP, on the assumption that you are not trolling, which doesn't seem evident from your history, but I don't think you are getting it. Violence at work is a dismissable offence, and one of the few that I can confidently predict will always result in dismissal. So it is completely irrelevant whether you think it's "reasonable" or not. There are no "reasonable adjustments" for violence, and any dismissal for such would be fair in law - to the extent that if the employer completely screwed up their dismissal process you could expect the employment tribunal to also throw the book at you.

Violence at work is never acceptable or reasonable. If, as you suggest, the actions of others are making you angry, you have options. Get another job. If they are doing something wrong, then use the grievance procedure. And if they aren't, get over yourself...

Ok if we all agree and im sure 99% would agree with you...ive a question for you and im sure with your considerable experience will be able to answer it.

Im at work on a building site..ive annoyed a ground worker (and lets be honest us both having worked on building sites know how quickly they get annoyed...well you said you had experience yes..!) and he is pinning me up against my forklift with various words like "Im going to smash your face in."...what would the very experienced Sangie do.

And for the love of Mary Joseph and the fat kid down the lane...PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE dont say "Go tell the site agent who will carry out a full and through investigation and have the naughty Ground worker removed from site".

Or Another situation being experienced in Manual type work you"ll know the answer to this...Your working on the Door and some mouthy wanna be hard man is giving it large in front of all his mates, trying to impress the girls, threatens to smash your face in...please tell me from experience how you would deal with it,baring in mind at 3am your walking home alone.

You can tripe out the law says this and that...work with me on the doors or tag a long with me on a building site and you"ll !!!!! yourself.

Im sorry to say a Strongly worded Memo just wont cut it.

Well in the first instance that's assault and a crime.

In the second, presumably you refuse entry.

You seem to be proud of all this, which is strange.

I'm sorry but if you don't know how to AVOID violent situations, then you should not be working on doors, because that is a professional skills that bouncers are rightly proud of - avoiding situations that they don't allow to arise.

You appear to think that violence is an acceptable solution. When the police pick you up, or you get dismissed for your violence, then you'll have nobody to blame but yourself. So you go ahead and do what you want. Lash out at people or smash them in the face. The consequences are yours. Violence begets violence, and if you don't know what to do to avoid being in that position in the first place, then you either aren't very skilled at your job, or you enjoy it too much. That is, of course, assuming any of what you say is true, because, of course, it's easy to act big and "tough" on here - for all we know you are a 4 foot 2 inch weakling who wouldn't say boo to a goose.

As for the OP, the answer remains that if he acts violently against his colleagues, he will almost certainly be dismissed, and will deserve to be.
