Perfect baked potatoes

  • Sorry, have to have a moan here! Just seen the McCain advert for their latest innovation - frozen, pre-baked potatoes. Just as fluffy as real, baked in the oven spuds, apparently.....(!!!!) I know that filled, chilled jackets have been around for a while in supermarkets, but somehow the idea of a frozen baked potato seems even more ridiculous. How much are they and how cheap is a decent baking spud? Rant over!!!!

Ridiculous, you can get a whole bag of baking potatoes for a pound.
  • On the other hand that ad has given me a great idea for pre baking spuds and shoving them in the freezer. :D

A friend picked these up from the freezer cabinet in his local Waitrose - and promptly put them down. Not because of the cost, mind - because of the calories!!!

You could say the same about tinned carrots, oven chips, all sorts of frozen or tinned foods. People are willing to pay for convenience! The McCain ready baked potatoes only apparently take 5 minutes from frozen in the microwave, that's a lot shorter than doing it yourself.

I live alone and buying pots in bulk is not an option. They are really useful to have in the freezer for those CBA days and/or if I can't get out. I did think at first how ridiculous so do understand OP's sentiments, but I have been converted. They are very tasty too though don't understand about the cals; need to check box.

They have indeed been available for a while, but they are absolutely vile, and I find it hard to believe anyone who ordered one has ever ordered one would do it twice.

I was erronously told to defrost one before baking it, and it had the texture of goo in a potato skin bag  it actually made me gag handling it, and took both hands and spread fingers to get it on the tray (and I had four to get on the baking sheet).
I refused point blank to cook them and serve - they got taken off the menu.
