Vauxhall lifetime warranty ☹

  • So, Dave, how did it all end please? Am currently in 4th year of owning a Mokka and have been told I need the spark plugs changing in order to keep my lifetime warranty. I've done 32,000 miles! In 4 years!! The Vauxhall-approved garage mechanic said the spark plugs (being platinum) need changing after 100,000 miles or 8 years, whichever's first, according to Autodata on a Mokka 1.4. Vauxhall are refusing to budge, saying it's a 4th year service so it's Major (although my service record booklet only has Interim and Main) and that we have to replace them (£20 each) if we want the lifetime warranty to continue. We've been on the phone and they can't tell us where it says the 4th year is a Major and has to have spark plugs changed...I don't suppose there's any point taking it further, but I just wondered how you got on!

    You should have started your own thread Dave hasnt been seen for a year.


    £80 to keep a lifetime warranty going seems a cheap price to pay

    The service booklet should also have a table of what components are changed and when.

    Id go with Vauxhall's advice if you dont want to pay £20 each see if you can buy them online cheaper (you usually can but make sure they are the right ones).

    Autodata are not Vauxhall warranty they can recommend whatever they think.

    The service book or service sheet should note if it needs plugs doing.

    Id recommend plugs being changed ever 32k on a car regardless of mileage. If I were being cheap I'd at least take them out and check.

    From my memory, the 'lifetime' warranties had a 100k mile limit on them. Remember seeing it in small print on a print ad. Struck me at the time as a very short life for a modern car.

    I know what you mean about £80, it's just that there's nothing in writing and I feel that Vauxhall just want to get money out of you when it's unnecessary - they probably regret ever doing the lifetime warranty.
    There's nothing in the service booklet, but they're digging their heels in at Activations even though they can't show me anything in writing. O well. My mechanic didn't think they needed it, so he didn't do it, but it looks like he'll have to; I guess the warranty is worth keeping! Even tho Mercdriver is correct and it's 100,000 miles to expiry (but then, again, I'm sure that'll take me a while...!)

    The lifetime warenty (10 yrs 100k) was superb beats all other manufacturers hands down. It maybe not a true lifetime but few keep there cars anywhere near that length of time so it is fair imo.

    You need the car serviced or checked at vauxhall else the warenty isn't valid you know?
