Vauxhall lifetime warranty ☹

If you bought a new Vauxhall between 2010 and 2015 like me you got Vauxhalls lifetime warranty. As I have just been told by Vauxhall the lifetime warranty dosnt cover all the same bits a normal warranty does. To me this in it's self is mis selling.
My car is now 4 years old, mokka 4x4. At 3 years old the propshaft bearing failed and it was replaced free of charge. Just over a year later but in the lifetime warranty (always serviced by Vauxhall and at only 50k) it has failed again and now as a good will guesture they will pay only 60% (20% by a great local Vauxhall garage) thus I pay 40% ( approx £450!!!!). This is not a wearing part and most other 4x4, these never need replacing within the first 10 years at least, normally the car falls apart before the prop fails. It is also mentioned that the powertrain is covered which this is a part!
Vauxhalls lifetime warranty isn't worth anything.

A bearing "IS" a wearing part.
I dont know of ANY car that doesnt have bearing that wear or fail.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
Woukd you consider the big end bearing in your engine as a wearing part? Or your gear box, etc, etc. There are lots of moving parts which are under design loads and not ones the customer subjects it to such as wheel bearings.
This item should not fail in this time and looks like it will keep failing, every year or two and cost over £1100 everytime. Either there is a design issue with the car or my car has been put together wrong which is putting this unit under a side load or the parts are not up to the job.
I bought the car with a lifetime warranty and it says it covers the powertrain. This is part of that!
This IS covered by Vauxhalls 3 year manufacturers warranty but not in their lifetime one. I was sold it as it being the same level of cover not a reduced level.0 -
Sorry got my numbers wrong, 40% pay is approx £650 and the total cost is £1600.
If it was a serviceable part and it cost £50 to £100 max then fine but at £1600 That is not a consumable and should be designed to last at least 100k which is what the lifetime warranty is.0 -

You did read what you signed up for? did you really expect them to offer full warranty for life?

I expect this is under the standard warranty? Just over a year later but in the lifetime warranty (always serviced by Vauxhall and at only 50k) it has failed again and now as a good will gesture they will pay only 60% (20% by a great local Vauxhall garage) thus I pay 40% ( approx £450!!!!).
I'll be honest this seems poor. 1 year for a brand new OEM part. This is not a wearing part and most other 4x4, these never need replacing within the first 10 years at least, normally the car falls apart before the prop fails. It is also mentioned that the powertrain is covered which this is a part!

Well the warranty is worth what it covers. What sort of mileage did you cover in the year?0 -
The warranty...

I think I'd be a bit miffed too, particularly as this part appears to be only a year old.

Three year failure possibly acceptable, but another after a year suggests there may be some other reason why it has failed so quickly.
Not fitting the replacement correctly, was the new bearing greased? Was the propshaft put back correctly, if it wasn’t running true it would stress the bearing.
I’d consider an independent rather than main dealer for the repair, or get an opinion on why it has failed so quickly and present that to Vauxhall.0 -

The part fitted was not of serviceable quality, demand a free repair.
You pay a premium for a Vauxhaull repair, speak to someone in charge.0 -

Yes. How long before they fail is another matter but they will fail as they wear out from use. Any moving part wears out, all of them. That includes big end bearings, gears in the gearbox, the bearings in the gearbox, the thrust bearings, the synchromesh rings....every single moving part in a vehicle is a wearing part. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. When the bearing originally failed it was a free of charge warranty replacement.0 -

I am sure any reputable Vauxhall garage would not be happy with their repair work lasting one year.0
