If you have 'foster' dogs, how can you ever bear to part with them? I've never been able to watch Lassie, & those adverts for Dogs Trust & such get turned over soooo quickly.....

The wax is usually used when showing dogs, or at agility classes, gives the dog a better grip on smooth surfaces.

As for coats, its true our dogs dont grow winter coats. Here where I live its common for dogs to be kennelled out side all year and the difference in coats really has to be seen to be believed. The lab next door is like a sheep his coat is that dense.

As to whether your dog needs fabric coat depends on what sort of dog he is and your lifestyle. As already offered the short hair slender dogs do need one in very cold weather. Less active dogs can benefit from one. If you have a double haired dog who likes to get wet then maybe its worth looking into. I have an English cocker and when in London and he had a show coat then a coat was a must because he took so long to dry. Now we live in the country his coat is clipped short it only takes a few mins with the hairdryer to dry him completely so no coat this year.

It is sad to see them go but nice to see them get a loving new home. I'd prefer to foster then have a dog permanately because I get to look after so many types and breeds. I would take on a dog full time if they suited our family though.
  • When we were looking for a dog, we were determined that we wouldn't have a dog that wore a coat. But then Tilly (Parsons Jack Russell) arrived, and she hates the rain - won't go out, and isn't that keen on the cold either! So, we had to get a coat that didn't look like a 'lap dog style tartan coat', and found these Weatherbeeta ones on https://www.equestrianclearancewarehouse.com. Weatherbeeta traditionally make horse rugs, so their dog ones are really robust and and good quality too.

My sister had one for her lab. Just a plain navy quilted one. They live in the country and he liked out for his walks, even if it was pouring down. It wasn't a fashion statement. It just kept him a bit drier.

Hi,My names Dillon, the westie, and I'd just like you all to know that my Bright orange Jogging suit saved my life.

OK,I'll admit it,at first i thought that I looked Blooming stupid wearing It,and thought that my doggy mates would all laugh at me .

Out enjoying a leisurely Sunday morning stroll last December,I decided, unseen,by the humans to take a dip in the local boating lake, only I encountered a slight problem, when, because of high banks i couldn't get out again.
Whilst the Humans frantically went in opposite directions calling my name,i struggled to keep my head above water,as I was starting to get very cold and tired.
Thankfully after about 20 minutes or so,the mistress spotted the bright orange jogging suit in the distance, shouting to OH "He's over there" my Master (hero) jumped into the lake (remember it is December) swam Fully clothed to the middle of quite a large lake,by this time i was really struggling to keep my head above water,so I was very pleased to see him.
Quite by coincidence the local vet was out having a walk and he gave me a quick once over before prescribing a warm up !:rotfl:
