I've just seen a great example of Tory free speech. Tory MP for Cleveland , Simon Clarke, has just written to his local PCC criticising police numbers in his area. He is a Tory who voted for cuts to the police budget but he now has the brass cheek to criticise his local force for the way that they deploy their depleted numbers. The link to free speech is that when his letter was published on his own Facebook page quite a few people put polite comments on there pointing out the link between Tory cuts and the drop in numbers in his area, but he removed the comments which were critical and only replied to the few comments which supported his point of view.

I think you're entitled to say that. I see no reason for ridicule.

It's not sarcastic. You mentioned "old fashioned" so I mentioned something which is considered old fashioned. People are entitled to hold such views. Often you can't avoid rights and wrongs though. So in this case it would be wrong if someone feels forced or expected to do certain things because of the views of another/others and they are not free to choose.

I agree, no one should be forced to do anything, the trouble is though as I said before on the list of protected characteristics that onlyroz put up, who's view holds sway, if one PC comes up against another PC? Whoever's it is, it means the other person will be forced to do something they don't want to do. It's a minefield really.

    It's Hail Marys.

And the priest cannot forgive anyone other than someone who has wronged him personally.

David Cameron did similar - made a complaint as local MP to his police authority, then as PM denied this was anything to do with government cuts in funding.

I've heard of 5 or 6 doing the same thing including Priti Patel and Boris Johnson.

Don't agree ...not talking about it is not saying she is part of it. It is about sensitivity and politeness. Yes I remember the 80's very well and the Irish jokes. I also remember the signs in the pub windows saying, 'No blacks, no dogs and no Irish'. Thankfully as I'm sure you'll agree things are better now and such bigotry would be unimaginable.

If she plays no part of it. Then no issue discussing it with her. It's not like you are blaming her.

How do you think she would feel if she finds you only talk about things like terrorism when she is not around?

Usually this is a single-person facility. There will be not be a stranger of the opposite gender loudly emptying their bowels with just a thin partition between you.
If there is a person in the next cubicle noisily emptying their bowels, why does their gender matter in any way?

Those signs you saw have been proven to be mythical. So ??
I am not saying there werer't any pubs where those groups.werent welcome. Obviously ignorent bigoted folk have always existed.
My Irish grandfather came here and settled where he felt at ease.

Subsequent generations moved out into the wider community.
I think, that nowadays, some groups have such alien beliefs and cusoms they may never totally integrate. Unless steps are taken to positively encourage them to do so.
Thats just my point of view.
But some people think I shouldnt be allowed to express this.
Free speach? We dont have it.Nor do most other Europeans. You will get locked up for saying certain things.
The Americans have freedom of expression though.
    But for how long?
The most beautiful emotion we can experience is the mystical. It is the power of all true art and science.
He to whom this emotion is a stranger, who can no longer wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead.

I would imagine that gender neutral toilets are remarkably common, it's just that they are not usually referred to in that way.

For example, to the best of my knowledge, every house or flat I have ever owned or visited had gender neutral toilets, and nobody else in the properties batted an eyelid.

I think I saw a video clip (Bill Maher?) where he ridiculed politicians who opposed their introduction yet presumably used them every day in their own homes.

It is not the same thing as only one person at a time uses the toilet.
