  • Internal - I think that was what I linked to, wasn't it? Just the same as a computer HDD.

Don't buy one until you've checked what the Maplin one can take. It might have a limit to the size (capacity) you can fit.

Lewt mate,. this is the experts reply,

Theirs quite a few things to take into consideration, which will affect the price considerably, like will it be recorded 24Hr, quality of camera image, will it need to work in darkness and how wide an angle lens.
  • Lewt, the camera you have looked at can take various lenses which are available from Maplin. From wide angle to telephoto. They cost a maximum of £23 and simply screw in.

As you already know, that camera has IR capabilities and the IR function (to 'see in the dark') is automatic and works up to 35m.

It captures at 420 lines which is near-DVD quality.

The Maplin unit can record up to 2,000 hours on a 120GB HDD. If you want 24 hour recording then that equals 83 days of footage. And if you use motion detection it'll be considerably more than that.

I think the kit you've outlined will do exactly what you want. If you wanted to enhance it from the basic setup it'd cost peanuts.
  • I got one of these:

for my nan, so she can see whose at the door. It works ok at night. If you were to place the camera at the front of a driveway, it would work well. Not bad for £30. You could just hook that up to a cheap video, stick in a 4 hour tape and record using LP for 8 hours a time. It's a cheap solution.

    Hope that helps.
