  • Maplin has this cheap-ish 4 channel recorder.

They also do a range of cameras - which seem quite expensive. However, I've recently bought several of these from eBay from a company called Owl Lighting. They have IR for night-viewing and they work pretty well. There are various cameras available on eBay if you search.

I use an Archos AV700 for recording in-car - but that's not what you'd call cheap.

Maplin also have a range of complete kits which are reasonably priced - I saw them in-store when I was buying bits to put my in-car system together. They use them for in-store security themselves.

hi thanks for the reply. so i would need the 4 channel recorder @ £99.99 then a hard drive for 49.99 and a couple of cameras at 20.00 each. is that all i would need ? i think i can strech to £200 for this.

  • Yes. It can take whatever HDD you want to install in it. You'll probably find HDDs cheaper if you shop around.

Frankly, it's probably not worth bothering unless you buy a system that produces high resolution pictures in the dark. A colour camera won't hack it so you'll need a b&w system with a good lens and high intensity infra-red lighting.
while others around you are losing their's
There's no apostrophe in "theirs". It's a possessive pronoun and doesn't require one.

and this would be for mainly in the dark recording so i would need a camera that could do this im not too bothered about it being colour as it only needs to be able to pick up the type of car and reg number.

could someone recomend a good camera for this purpose please. thanks
