Worst case scenario? They say that as she didn't notify them of the three points her insurance is void and they don't pay out. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

How can they do that when the points on licence have nothing to do with the cars being stolen? Its not as though she is a worse driver than she made out and that caused the claim is it? If it were a speed-related accident then maybe they could argue for a lower pay out but not for theft surely??0 -

In your [sister's] case, check the terms of the multi-car policy - each total car loss is likely to be considered a separate claim. Out of interest, what is the policy excess and is this being charged once or by a multiple of three (indicating whether the insurer is treating it as a single or multiple claim)?
Thanks, will find out what excess is being charged.
Not sure that the information will be available as there has been no offers or settlement discussion. she has just been told it is dispute. No time frame either for any resolution.
Very frustrating when it happened a month ago and a courtesy car is not provided when a vehicle is stolen according to their T&C's!0 -

There isn't any information about what excess they will be charging as they just keep saying it is "in dispute".0 -

The question is whether they would have accepted the risk if they had known about the points. My gut feeling is that there will be a good outcome to this thread (unless there are other points etc we don't know about).0 -

I will report back any further developments, any idea of the expected time frame for them to make a decision?0 -

When is the policy due for renewal?0 -
If they can show that they would not have covered her at all, had they been aware of the true situation, then they can cancel from inception.
For three points - unless it's a long way from being her only three - then that's very unlikely. What's much more likely is that they'll simply deduct the extra premium from the payout.
As far as the protected NCB goes, maybe I'm missing something - but isn't she making three claims on her multi-car policy...?0 -

She had 12 years no claims protected, their T&C's suggest a two year reduction for 3 claims, so a reduction to 2 years even with protection was a little shocking, but now having read a lot about no claims it seems the maximum is 5 years NCB so it appears there is a relatively minor discrepancy of 1 year.0
