laying laminate floor around chimney hearth

It must be photos as the new flooring goes the same way. There was also no extra underlay used however I replaced old one with new one.
It looks like I dont have much choice and need to accept beading once it is properly fitted0 -
Even if he had cut the beading with a mitre saw, picked the right colour and fitted properly it still looks a bit naff around a fireplace.
Personally I'd find someone to make a wooden toe for the hearth in wood matching the fire sourround. It then needs to be rebated over the edge of the hearth, fixed to the wall and fixed at the front using hidden fixings, like fitting a mirror.
Forgot this was MSE
it will cost a LOT more than beading, but look nice.
Really, really don't ask this guy to make on of these, it would end in tears.
like this but in the right colour wood, and not quite as high profile.

I suspect there is a ledge around the top of the hearth that the old floor was fitted under. To do this you would need to start fitting the floor on the side of the room with the fireplace and finish on the opposite side. I suspect this floor was fitted from the opposite side of the room making it impossible to fit the final boards under the ledge.illusionek wrote: »So I wonder how it was done previously. Would I need to lift hearth install new laminate floor and then put it back? Obviously too late to do anything now but wondering for the future.0 -
I have gone through all the responses and I think the best thing you can do in the current scenario is to tell him to paint the primed beading in matt black ( http://amzn.to/2jlqr6H ) and fit the corners to perfection again. You can also opt for a oak effect beading like http://amzn.to/2hwsTH5 or something similar that matches your floor.
Black matches your hearth and oak effect matches your flooring. So the choice is yours. Either way, DEMAND him to get the corners right. The gaps in the corners look ugly around the fireplace since it's in the middle of your room.
All the best.illusionek wrote: »It must be photos as the new flooring goes the same way. There was also no extra underlay used however I replaced old one with new one.
