laying laminate floor around chimney hearth

Hello
I am after an advice on whats the standard/reasonable expectation for laying laminate flooring around chimney hearth
I got a carpenter in to lay flooring in my living room where there is a fireplace. He did the job whilst I was away at work so when I came back all was done already.
I am really unhappy with the fact that he cut flooring around chimney hearth and then put bead around hearth. When I asked him about it he said that the hearth was put directly onto the subfloor so he had no choice but to do it this way.
It is kind of my fault I guess that we have not discussed it in advance but it never cross my mind as I have never seen this done this way.
So now I am after advise whether the job he did is reasonable and should be expected providing he did not get any other instructions from me or putting bead around hearth is not standard and he should bring it to my attention before doing anything.
On one hand I am unhappy with the outcome but then I cannot blame the guy if it something I should specify to him.
Many thanks,

What were you expecting him to do?0

Did he put the bead on top of the hearth or butted up to the hearth?Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi0

The choice is beading or see the expansion gap. What he has done is normal.0

He butted up to the hearth.
The old floor that has been replaced was installed on the same sub floor as new one and there was no visible expansion gap or beading. I dont exactly know how it was done but it looked like heart was on top of the floor and I was hoping for similar effect0 -
Photo? Like the others said, I’m not sure what else he could be expected to do.0

Many thanks for your replies. Please see before and after photos. I was hoping for same finish as before photo although I dont know how this could be achieved if at all.0

The white beading looks second hand and is a mess. Very unprofessional. Not surprised you are not happy with it.
Its possible the hearth has a 1" lip around the top which the old floor was fitted underneath which looks very tidy.
Replacing the white beading with well fitted beading which matches the floor is the easiest option and will look much better.0 -
Don't wonder you are a bit cross.............
What an absolute bodge job that is !!
I would have been livid if somebody had done that & called it a job.
A 5 year old kid could have made a better job.
A few quids worth of nice wooden beading PROPERLY mitred would have looked lovely.
