  • Zip the images using 7-Zip (free) or Winzip. Use the encryption option and phone the password to the recipient?

Can you take the ID to the employer so they can photocopy it there and then. Most secure way I can think of.

That applies only to gmail and hotmail/outlook. Then ther's this:

I just googled "Encrypt email attachments"
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

my microsoft account was compromised last month and someone brought a laptop via my microsoft office subscription. the bank stopped and reversed the transaction but the experience has left me very wary about my security

I haven't kept up-to-date with things, but the "old advice" was that email is inherently insecure. It comes from an era when security wasn't a consideration, and communications were sent in plain text.

The issue with sending confidential information via an unencrypted method is that (in theory) it could be intercepted as it travels across the internet.

I'm not sure, but don't most email providers now provide secure access to IMAP/SMTP servers...?

So... although security isn't "baked into" email... is it still an issue...?

sorry to hear that. i trust you have spoken to microsoft and bank to try and establish how you account was compromised.

what you have to remember is that it doesn't matter how much encryption you put on the email you have to trust the people at the other end with your docs

  • Are you sure you need to supply them with both Passport AND Driving Licence? Plenty of folk about only have one or the other.

My current job I only showed my Driving Licence and proof of address and P45 from previous employer.

Most HR departments are incompetent so I wouldn't want to e-mail it.
