You can have this tariff if you have a dumb E7 meter but only whilst waiting for them to fit their smart meter.

Although thinking about it, rather curiously, I was recently assured by Ebico that I cannot have a smart meter because they don't have them available for E7 yet.

I wasn't going to argue with them ;)

As many 'upmarket' holiday home owners use Ebico, they could heat their swimming pools overnight.

Then use a Water Source Heat Pump to heat their home and DHW during the day ;)

    i,m currently with Bulb

    Vari fair 1,145/year annual cost

    Day rate 13.943p per kWh
    Night rate 6.609p per kWh
    standing charge 24.56p per day

    the ebico deal is

Ebico Night Owl - £713.59 annual cost
    Night Rate 0
    Day Rate 16.787p per kWh
    Standing Charge 51.483p per day

    saving over £400 (supposedly)

I used 2500kwh in day and 10000 kwh on night rate over the last year

so it would be over 60% so I,m assuming this deal would be of no use if they switch to another plan when I go over the maximum

also the mandatory smart meter was a major put off

    anyone else in similer dilemma?

sounded good on paper till I read small print

Where did you get your figures from?

A very quick look indicated to me the Bulb tariff would cost you £1099 not £1145 per year

The ebico tariff (if it were available to you) would cost you just £607.59 per year, not £713.59.

All based solely on the figures you have provided. E&OE.

Consult a comparison site to find the best deal for you :)

figures come from "cheap energy club"

yes I could get the deal as I,m all electric, but the 60% maximum and smart meter as pretty much put me off, as I use more than 60% night time rate at times

Illustrative electricity cost on this tariff Based on the usage figures you gave us, this is the estimated cost you'll pay for the next year. Based on your usage Assumed annual consumption 12500 kWh Estimated annual cost £713

the annual figure above is if I take ebico deal)

the figure below is my current deal with Bulb

    Your Electricity Tariff: Vari-Fair
    Current cost £1,145/year
    £95/month

having thought about it abit more the one good thing bulb (currently) as going for it. is its free £50 credit you get for each friend u refure, so the savings I,m currently making with bulb due to that.

makes moving/switching less appealing currently (even tho I may save or may have saved assuming I used less than 60% (which at times I don't) with the ebico deal

another plus with bulb is its currently 1 of the top tariffs out there (apart from the new Ebico deal) for me anyway
which in itself isn't all as its cracked up to be with its limitations (60% max usage+smart meter) at least not for me anyway

the situation may change in time if bulb increase prices (as its currently not fixed) just a variable deal. but at least it doesn't come with exit fees, so all in all currently its a win/win situation with bulb

Interesting that anyone who is actually a "night owl" is probably not going to be able to use this tariff as it's likely that >60% of their usage is at night :/

Not sure I understand your point.

Plenty of people with storage heating and immersion heaters use over 60% in the 7 hours of off-peak during the winter, and average in a 12 month period 60%

The issue is if the high cost of the other 40% and daily standing charge makes the tariff worthwhile.

I think the point was that if you use over 60% at night then you cannot have the deal.

The answer presumably is to look at shifting some of your night usage to day because even if you have to pay day rate for them the cost should be offset by the free 'up to' 60% consumed at night.

It involves a lot of maths, which is not something the typical consumer is alleged to be good at. Are people really ready for the more complicated tariffs that smart metering can offer, or is the whole thing a waste of billpayer's money?
