    I've been Money Tipped!
I believe the reason crystals form is because the ice cream may have melted too much and the water comes out of it as it refreezes.

Use it quickly and put it back.

    Not sure of that one.

I take the tub out, take out two scoops and put it back in the freezer straight away.

It doesn't stay out long enough to start to melt, we have to leave it a minute or two before we eat it from the bowl as it is so hard!

Hi there, I've really taken to reading through these forums in my free time, so much good and valuable information to be found! I'm trying to live my life very sensibly now after stupidly getting into a lot of debt in the past which I've now thankfully paid off. I just want to be happy and save what little I can but still enjoy life with what I do have. I'd really appreciate any tips you can share with me though, every little helps you know :)

Thank you very much Money Savers xxx

Supermarket discounts / whoopsies for me. I don't have time to shop during the week as I work long hours so on Friday night I go shopping during the discount hour for all the cheap bargains and see what they have. Then I take it home and work out a weekly menu around what I am able to find and do the rest of the shopping first thing saturday morning. Saves me a bundle - eg : this week I found 700g of lean beef mince for £1, pack of three beef steaks for £0.43, two large chunky crumbed cod steaks for £1, and some fresh tortellini for £0.50 along with two garlic baguettes for £0.15 each. I also managed to find a week's worth of organic wholemeal rolls at £0.19 per 4 rolls so all the main ingredients for evening and lunch meals this week for under £5 and all I needed to do on saturday was buy the pasta sauce ingredients, veg, sandwich fillings etc to match what I found.

Squeeze one extra portion out of the evening meal and put it in a pot for a lunch later on.

and ... you don't NEED to buy it...

I don't replace anything until I have to and I don't buy anything I don't need and starting with the highest interest rate things I pay minimum payments on everything and hammer the highes interest rate.. I am now (apart from the loan I cannot pay off just yet as there is a massive penalty fee and the mortgage) debt free which has freed up £600+ a month!!!

    Plan plan plan!

Also use up what you have, rather than go shopping. Our fridge was mega full a week or two ago after my dd's 21st party that we had at home. Both kids (21 and almost 18) are at home at the moment and observe that the fridge is pretty empty. But I'm on a no spend mission at the moment. I think it's good for them to observe that you don't necessarily have to go out shopping to make a meal.

I thought we had to go today, but I went down to the cellar and found the final 6 pack of UHT milk. Do need to go tomorrow tho' as dh will be home and 'needs' normal milk for cereal on Monday morning.

My next move is to show them that by planning a week's meals, the fridge doesn't actually need to be full.

  • Never waste anything leftovers can be made into so many things always plan meals( can be changed if you get reduced items but don't impulse buy) and ask yourself if you really need an item or just want it.

Unless you are going out to buy something you need and planned for (food for example) don't take any money or cards with you.
Scary at first but very helpful particulary if you impluse buy a lot. If you really really really want to buy go back another day.

Buy as much as you can second hand. I have furnished our home from ebay. All good quality furniture as some people buy new every year or so and the furniture is still like new.
Dont go for latest trends but buy stuff you know will stand the test of time.
    Try the cheaper supermarkets .
    Haggle when shopping.
Buy childrens clothing in the sales for the next year. Buy second hand clothing for little ones. Most baby and toddler clothing has seen little wear as they grow so fast.
Avoid buying childrens furniture such as wardrobes ,chest of drawers as its best to buy furniture that will last through from babyhood to teens. Dont buy novelty beds they outgrow them in such a short space of time.
Try not to let your children be fussy with food or it will cost you more time and money making different meals.
Have a get together at home and ask everyone to bring a plate of food and a bottle. Saves money and less hassle.
Teach your children the value of money. Make a budget for birthdays and christmas. Tell your children when little that father christmas chooses what they can have off their lists. Older ones need to be given the budget of what can be spent on them.
