We got our Stardrops (a new product which I had to try seeing that everybody was enthusing about it) from our local ASDA. It was tucked away out of sight right on the bottom shelf under all the premium washing up liquids like Fairy.
  • Thanks Primrose & Frugal... I shall search it out on the next grocery shop. Will have to search all threads now to see what else it can be used for!

Wilkin$ons & Ice£and sell it too - or at least they do down here in Dorset where I am.

Have to say, although I use it in emergencies for washing clothes - which is does a fine job of - I've found it to be very disappointing on it's cleaning ability.

I think I'm probably the only one on these boards to say that, and I've no idea why it works for everyone else and not me, but that is my experience of it :o

The combination I tried was equal 1/3rds of Stardrops, White Vinegar & Water. Maybe someone can recommend a different mix that I could try?

I tried it once and was underwhelmed - and found it very harsh on my skin. I use soda crystals, vinegar, lemon juice and ordinary soap for cleaning (with some tea tree oil for disinfectant)

It seems to work OK for me but I'm still using my first bottle, and as I'm not a cleaning freak, "clean enough" does for me :rotfl: I wonder though whether the mineral constitution of your water affects the end result. We're in a high limescale area where we live and that may possible affect the end result. Certainly any drips which come from our taps onto sinks, baths, etc. are very hard to remove.

Think I got mine in Tescos.
    Most supermarkets have them.

Hippiechiq, try using a more dilute solution. When I make up a spray bottle of it, I use about 100mls stardrops, a few drops of Zoflora and fill the bottle up with water. I think most of the spray bottles are about 750ml capacity. I found when I used it more concentrated, that it just didn't do as good a job. In this dilution, I can spray it on my hob, and most things just wipe straight off.
If I use it for floors, I measure it out with a medicine spoon, and put up to 10ml in 4-5L hot water. I have white tiles in my hall and porch floors (thanks for that one DH!!!) and it brings them up sparkling. If it is stronger, it leaves the floor a bit streaky. Don't do like my friend's dh did one day when he was feeling helpful. He squirted neat stardrops on the tiled kitchen floor and then tried to clean it with a wet mop. Even after she tried to rescue it, they were skating around in the kitchen for about 5 days!!!!!! LOL
Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...

Lol - I can imagine! And I think I'd be tempted to give OH a cuff round the ear for the white tiles, although I'm sure they look lovely....maybe you should make him clean them every now and again - especially during the winter ;)

Thanks for that suggestion, and a good idea to add Zoflora too. I can see my solution is much more concentrated than yours, perhaps that's been part of the problem. I've got a little Zoflora left in my current bottle, so I'll give that a bash - thanks :)

Not only did my other solution not work - it won't even touch the smallest of spills on my ceramic hob - but I didn't like the fact that everything I cleaned smelt of vinegar.......that is so not a good smell in a small downstairs toilet! I much prefer the Zoflora idea :)

    • Boil only the amount of water you need in the kettle.
    • lemon juice and water in the microwave for 2 minutes, leave the steam to work for another 1 minute then just wipe over the microwave
    • vinegar/water and news papers to clean windows
    • Quilt under the bottom sheet of the bed add extra warmth.
    • door curtains
    • bubble wrap in the letter box (after my draught excluder broke off).
    • today got my DS to take the bath panel of and put polystyreine and a thermal lining down to stop the terrible draught that was coming from the garage (bathroom is over the garage).
    • one spoon of washing powder and white vinegar as softener.
    • Keep free range chickens for the eggs and sell any surplus to people, (though i prefur to give them to my mates) that way you are making money for thier food :A
There are probably a load of other tips but can't think of them yet.
