No snow in Dartford crossing area.
How early is early. I think if you go through Dartford tunnel before 6am  its free.
    Drive carefully :)

Not that early gocat :rotfl: Leaving Hampshire about 9.30 am. I get free through Dartford Crossing with my Blue Badge ;)

I'm in Notts 3Dogs and we are forecast significant snow for a good portion of tomorrow with temps below freezing and travel disruption Sunday/Monday. Please take great care as you travel.

You'll probably be okay travelling from Hampshire to Essex. However, travelling to Rochdale:eek:. There is already snow in Greater Manchester today, Yorkshire was just cold but get over the Pennines and the snow was coming down this morning. It then stopped around lunchtime but obviously there is still snow on the ground. The worry is travelling very early on Monday morning through Northamptonshire, Lincolnshire, Sheffield and Birmingham, the West and North Midlands, all places that are expected to have snow falling for most, if not all, of Sunday and it will either still be snowing, with up to 20cm of snow expected in some parts of GM, possibly even more farther south in the Midlands, or will be turned to ice.

I couldn't have visited M today - although Google maps is surprisingly showing the same journey time although that journey was via motorways so should be okay. I did my additional store visit to M during a three-hour window of opportunity on Thursday evening before the snow really started, even then parts farther west had started a little amount of snow falling but it wasn't sticking. It will have done by now I imagine. I suspect all of the places I visited on Wednesday will now be covered and, with the heavy snow expected tomorrow, I am just currently battening down and staying in (all shopping was done on Thursday) - it may be ice for a significant part of Monday and I need not bother with M this time but can just miss the Monday and later in the week should improve.

However I have been out at M in snow and ice on one occasion in the past. It was on one of my long journeys and mostly fine during the day in many parts of the area I visited. However, it was by the hour at the end, that the snow had come down quite a lot and on the way back, which required a very indirect route, some of it due to me not reading maps properly:o, I got through an area where it had snowed even more. It was also uphill part of the way around there and I only just managed to keep the car going. I managed to get home, eventually, travelling at about 10 mph all the way, and what it did was turn a one or one and a half hour journey into a four hour one. On one part, the car got picked up, skidded along the (empty, it was past midnight) pavement a few metres and then landed on the road in the right position and kept going the route it should have done:eek::eek:. I will not be trying this again very soon. You need very careful driving and your wits about you if you are going to attempt such a journey. Even the carefulest of drivers can come unstuck. Stay safe. If it's not absolutely necessary, I would give up trying to go to Rochdale on Monday (you have a lot farther to travel than I did, and some of it on motorways that mine, on that occasion, wasn't, which should be a little better but even so...) - and, if you travel and have to go much more slowly and carefully, the journey time is obviously extended and do you really want to be trying to travel in GM around rush hour? People may well stay off the roads but travelling may still be difficult. Also, if you do attempt any journey, make sure you have enough fuel.

Looking very bad indeed. Excellent advice Savvy ♥

I think I agree 3Dogs with savvy and TM wouldn't travel you could be stuck for hours in snow.

Thanks for all the advice. If I don't do the Tiptree then home to Wisbech tomorrow, there is no need for me to do the Rochdale trip on Monday. The plan was to get to Tiptree for about 1 pm, pick up a load of donations of dog bedding and dog food from a friend who collects it to go to my Rommie rescuer Juliana. Then I'd drive home. I need to get the donations to Rochdale for depot opening at 8am as they are starting to load massive wagon to leave that day to take the donations to various rescuers in Bucharest, Romania. This trip to Rochdale normally takes me around 3 hours so would be leaving home at 4.30/5 am

That is not on in this weather is it? :( I would be stupid to attempt it. If I am not taking the donations to Rochdale, I can;t pick up the bags etc from Tiptree as I have nowhere to store it at home and I can't leave it in my car as I would need the space to pick up my woofers when I get back. When you afre in an area without the bad weather, it is hard to make these decisions, which is why I value everyones advice on here from around the route. Much as I would love to get the stuff up there, one car load is not going to make much difference to a massive lorry load

Thanks for helping me make the decision. Elite at its best, yet again

By the way, I would have lots of blackets in the car if I travelled, from Tiptree onwards anyway :rotfl: but I only have shoes with me, no boots, and no coat, only a cardigan and scarves

Don't suppose they will do another tour for a while but will keep an eye out. There's always room for a little one :rotfl:

DD2 will be travelling back to Essex some time tomorrow. Probably early evening so I am hoping that the motorways will be ok  She is currently out in Liverpool otherwise I would be suggesting that she travelled tonight instead.
I hope she isnt driving, it looks treacherous. According to BBC weather the Midlands are getting it tomorrow, my son is travelling from Derby to London, we reckon once he clears Bubbsland it will just be rain.
    Getting home might be "interesting".

That is exactly what I meant. The route may involve trying to travel through Northamptonshire in the early hours of Monday. You would have to come farther west from there to get to Rochdale, through areas where all the snow is and that will have more tomorrow. A large part of Central England is forecast snow for most, if not all, of the day that ends only hours before the journey is proposed to be begun. Even rush hour Monday will be difficult from that - travelling a few hours before then, it's not going to have shifted and it will be ice.

Despite me suggesting I never trust their forecasts, on this occasion I do - look at this here:
    http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/2641430?day=1

Currently showing Northampton, snow all day (which they define until right through to 5am Monday - and it continues on Monday morning showing snow at least two hours after that)!
