I'm still waiting to be thanked for last year's gifts, so have decided not to buy nieces and nephews this year. They are mostly working now and don't seem to appreciate any gifts.

As TS says, it would be fine as it was a gift, unless you die before 7 years were up, but it may affect benefits if they were on them.
