What a palarva. My computer was on a go-slow so I just tried to restart it. Whilst restarting or, rather, failing to do so it went to the screen of "Preparing to configure Windows. Do not switch off your computer." and then waited ages and ages and did nothing except effectively show the 'egg timer'. If it had stalled like this, but on "Shutting down" and then not doing so, this would precisely be one of the occasions on which I would switch off the computer to start it up again sooner but, fearing the worst if I switch off when it's trying to configure the system and then find I can't ever switch the machine on again, and as I just follow instructions, I left it there, thinking I may be in for a long night.

Eventually - I'm impatient as it's only about 20 minutes later - I bit the bullet and did what I should not do - I switched the machine off. Thinking, at moments in between, Windows is an operating system and I might end up with no Windows but isn't Google Chrome an operating system and Firefox an operating system and I don't use Windows at all but use both of those two, so will be fine.

On switching off:eek:, I was able to switch on and - as you can see - log safely back into the computer and quickly back onto the Internet with absolutely no ill-effects or any problem, at least not any I can see, at all. Had I continued to follow the intsruction I suspect I would still be watching that message continually on screen and the timer going round and round with nothing happening at all several hours from now. Instead, ignoring it and doing the precise opposite has sorted the matter the quickest it possibly could have done and I'm now on the Internet in double quick time and it's no longer jammed!

I bet this is one of those messages purely there because it serves the manufacturer's commercial interests, to tie you into something, and is of no use or meaning at all.

It's a bit like those cookie messages on some other websites, claiming that I should agree to them as it will provide "the best experience" of the website. WRONG! The "best" experience, according to them, is one in which the ads are relevant to the website user and, while that may well serve their interests, in being more likely therefore to get me to buy something that interests me but which I would be best advised to do without and not waste money on, it provides in my view the worst possible experience!

The best experience, for me, is one in which there are preferably absolutely no ads at all and therefore nothing at all that can ever see me spending money on something I would not have bought without being manipulated by targetted advertising into buying anything. Or else that any ads I do see are to be totally and utterly irrelevant to me so that I am preferably not influenced into buying anything. I realise that this is totally contrary to and does not suit the interests of the companies that exist to make money via advertising and try to flog to me. However, it suits my interests (as determined rationally by me as opposed to most ordinary people actually being much more often irrational and failing to act in their own interests) as it keeps the money with me and not with them. This seems to be like one of my internet browsers that claimed I should download - which I did - the new system as it was the fastest ever.

The web has been the absolutely slowest I have experienced ever since:mad:. I think it is because all this data, instead of quickly connecting me to the site I want, is being sent to other websites collecting my personal information without my active consent and harvesting it even if I am not a member and slowing my system even more. It's a nuisance! NO! I do not want any information at all sending to anywhere else. Full stop. So, stop it now! I do not give permission and I want only totally irrelevant advertising and any experience at all except the one you consider to be the "best" that I consider to be absolutely anything except what you do. I do not want any tracking at all - all these "Client Firefox" and "Client Google Chrome" in searches when I try to search on Google - what's all that for? The searches work perfectly well, and probably much quicker, if I am able to delete that and put a stop to their attempts to track me. Again, these "tracking codes" that exist in the URL boxes - that seem to exist for their benefits, of trying to track my activity, and do not exist for my interests at all. I do not want to be tracked! Go away!

You notice, if I post a link on here, I remove the "tracking code" section that, in my view, should not be there at all and if I had my way I would ban it, but some people have posted links on here with a tracking code still in them. Maybe I should leave the tracking code in as several different people then visiting the link using the tracking might mess up their system (so perhaps I'm doing it wrongly and should leave the links in?). A bit like finding wombled receipts and putting CCs on will leave the original shopper's data on your CC account and therefore might be a very good thing indeed as it helps put a stop to T tracking your shopping habits - just use it to put other people's receipts on and never use it on your own shops and then they won't be able to send you offers for products that might interest you and therefore won't see you spending money on things you like - a win situation for me it stops me being influenced by coupons getting me to buy something I wouldn't have bought otherwise:money:! The less relevant their coupons are, the better:money:! Surely. If the companies say the opposite, then well that proves my point as it's in their interests and not in mine.

Maybe I was lucky with the configure thing as maybe my computer was going so slow it had not even started to configure and therefore I got away with it. I have no clue as I have no clue about any of these things. I can just about work out how to log into this website:rotfl:. I shan't be trying the shut down thing again and hope I don't have the situation of the message hanging around like that again.

Yes same receipt but different offers.
I have done this successfully before!?
I tried last week with the fage yoghurt. Bought 2 on the same receipt and tried to claim one on cos and one on cs and got an email to say it's a no no. When I pointed out that I had bought 2 yogs it was pointed out that I should read the t's and c's.
How are you supposed to know that cs is a parent company of cos?
