Have you the consumption for your American Style fridge/freezer ?
I was going to suggest this too, or possibly use one of those consumption type plugs to see just how much said appliance is really 'eating'

It might be reasonable but it would be one "item of interest" I'd be checking to see what it was using, regardless of any labels on it. :)

I’ve bought a plug to check the American style fridge freezer, just waiting for it to arrive. I’m a bit suspect about this one too as I used to hear it go off but it seems to be running constantly

Best plan. :) It would be interesting to know how it compares on the 'plug meter' compared to any label on it, if its got one / readable / still attached. If its running all the time that is not going to assist greatly. Some are effected by room temp quite a bit but it depends on the type, its another complete subject unfortunately.

I do not know how energy efficiency works on these as I don't think the "US Market" ones will be too highly efficient but for ones that are for the EU and / or just "US Size/Style" it will differ I guess.

The plug reader will reveal all :D , plus its useful for other things too. The neighbour has mine I must get it back at some point.
  • I’m struggling to work with the plug to see what energy my fridge freezer is using so im turning it off for the day to see what the difference is.

Also my electric readings are showing we are using around 24 kWh per day but yesterday the usual fridge freezers on but only one tv for some of the day and an oven for 20 minutes and it was still 20 kWh usage for the day! I cannot work out what is using so much?

One more thing is I have noticed on my gas bill

    Usage
    2901.74 kWh
    20 may - 31 Oct 16

    5106.82 kWh
    20 may - 31 Oct 17

Is this a lot? It’s seems very different considering the heating is on the same timer and it was off June to mid October, only other thing is water heated.

I await with interest the days readings with the American fridge freezer switched off.

    My bet 18 kwh.

I mean your reading with it switched off not its saving. You saved 9 units by switching off your chest freezer.

Why are you struggling with the plug - just plug the fridge freezer into it and leave it for 24 hours, it will tell you how many kwh it's consumed. Just watching it as the fridge turns on & off is a waste of time you need to be looking at it's consumption over a longish period to get an average.

Washing machines & other similar stuff need to be left plugged in over the whole cycle from start to finish to monitor their consumption.

as I said, this it what I use https://www.energyhive.com/dashboard/dave which monitor my whole house and I've got a pretty good idea of what all the peaks and troughs relate to so I know what's on and when.

It's a bit harder during the day when the heating is on as the heatpump cycles on & off (we are all electric) but after a while a pattern emerges and any anomolies become apparent.

All the regular small peaks overnight are the freezer and the big one in the morning is the heating & hot water kicking in. The slightly higher one at 08:28 was the coffee machine, like wise at about 10:48.

As the monitor does it in real time (see the rotating disc) you can wander around the house with a laptop, phone or tablet switching stuff on and off to see what effect it's having. I can even monitor what's going on when I'm on holiday.

All for £20 from Maplins at the moment (see my post #56)

Are these ACTUAL or ESTIMATED readings ?
