How can i stop phone memory filling up?

I found CleanMaster quite bloated -- it seemed to affect the phone's performance. The memory cleaning feature is useless as Android manages memory by itself quite well -- it's likely to just increase battery usage and reduce performance.
Also, if you're using CleanMaster to delete cache files frequently, it just means that when you next run the app, the cache files are recreated (using extra battery power and possibly mobile data).
The main benefit of programs like this is to get rid of leftover files when you uninstall an app. I have CCleaner installed, as it isn't as bloated as CleanMaster, but rarely use it.0
