Now being told that the money has not been received back from the bank yet but that they are putting 'emergency payment' into her account should be there by tomorrow...

Which actually begs several questions but the main one being why on EARTH did they not do this in the first instance?

Probably because you seemed more interested in allocating blame than getting some kind of resolution. If both parties had just agreed that something had gone wrong and, in the meantime, maybe she could have an advance of salary till it was resolved, it could have been sorted ages ago.

The blame thing was an issue because THEY were saying they didn't have to pay her until they got the money back from the person paid in error BECAUSE it was according to them my daughters fault.

    If they'd

A apologised and offered a solution resulting in her being paid ASAP

B not apologised but said they would make sure it was sorted anyway so that she was paid into correct account ASAP

We would have been annoyed at being blamed but not taken that issue further.

They were using the blame issue to stall.

Have you seen this 'proof' they say they have that it was your daughter's fault. If not, request it. They WILL have a copy, electronically submitted or otherwise.

They could always have done a special BACS right from the get-go. I work for a payroll bureau & we're perfectly capable of doing this (& do so) if any of the companies we process for request it - & so are the companies with their OWN payroll processing departments. This employer simply didn't want to pay for it.

How high up has your daughter gone within this payroll department?

No they've not given us this proof. Funnily enough as we've been pushing for that today...then now they're saying they'll do an urgent payment

Apologies wordsfan, I've only just checked back on this thread. It sounds like someone in payroll has dropped the ball in a major way. I hope your daughter gets paid ASAP. They can use a system called Faster Payments to pay your daughter, usually it takes a few minutes (but can take up to 2 hours) for the payment to transfer across to the nominated bank account.
    Hope that helps :)

They messed up. Even after they've paid her, she/you should still keep pushing for the original notification of her bank details. If they did get it wrong they have behaved most unprofessionally.

    SCOTS LAW APPLIES

daughter (16) is on an apprenticeship with a large international company.

First wage was due almost 2 weeks ago. They messed up the details (know this as she input and checked and then I checked) they're trying to make out its her mistake I think because they are thinking young girl won't know her rights, won't have the confidence that she gave the right info or to insist they sort it ASAP.

She called payroll again today and they were very cheeky saying basically not their mistake, not their problem. That it is up to the bank to rectify washing their hands of the issue.

Daughter is shattered, has been working very hard, apprentice trainer very praising and she loves the work but she is getting fed up with the treatment from payroll.

I am thinking I will call acas tomorrow and try and get legal advice but it's playing on both our minds and I am very angry how they (payroll) have treated her. Immediate boss and their boss have been chasing too on her behalf.

    Please advise.

I believe under scots law non payment of wage is theft.

Also that them making the mistake means not her or banks problem. This is an international company they can absolutely afford to pay her the wage she is owed without needing the mistake rectified first. In fact they could afford for it not to be rectified (but I understand they shouldn't by principle be out of pocket permanently)

    Meanwhile we are really struggling
