How lovely - my Sis lives about ten miles from there - her DH is quite a keen golfer - rich pickings around there (and lots of decent property overlooking these if not directly on the sea-front). You do seem to have put on a bit of a spurt with your debt repayment - it is though some switch has tripped and you are more focussed. That is certainly how it is with me. I want to get our mortgage down to below £30k by the time DH retires so we can use the pension TFLS to take it under £10k.

I am very envious of your feed-in-tariff. With a thatched property we can't do panels on the main roof, and the cart lodge roof orientation is the wrong way round. Maybe when we rebuild the pig-shed - although the tariffs have stopped, we could PVC up the roof for immediate energy assistance.

    Have a good week.

I think I could learn to love golf if all of the courses were as pretty as those in and around Troon :) That neck of the woods is relatively affordable, or Ayr is cheap as chips - we like this

I do sometimes consider buying a pile with a long mortgage and then relying on TFLS to pay it off... Not sure what's driving the current focus - not some sort of epiphany - largely grim determination at this point

Ps. The gummint is replacing FIT with something else. It will no doubt be !!!! in some special way, but I'm told it's on the way ;)

North Berwick is my fantasy dream location.

It is rather lovely beanie, although the day we visited it felt a bit "shovey" (like St Andrews, if that makes any sense)? :o

DD is in bed, time for the second half of GoT and then an early night.

    Take care all :coffee:

  • That house is incredible Ed! With 295k to spend you could buy that, or a 50% share in a studio flat in London.... Tough choice! :rotfl:

It's pretty clear that maths isn't a prerequisite for estate agenting though... 20ftx20ft does not equal "a huge and impressive master which is a 20 square feet room" :rotfl:

Don't know what Harry Potter's problem was, the cupboard under the stairs is a huge and impressive room - ungrateful little brat! :D

I never spotted that SSS - I think our current spare room is 20 square feet :rotfl:

I guess the communal gardens and the shared boiler room are OK if you get on with your close neighbours. I wonder what the whole thing would cost? I really like Ayr and especially that area where (if I remember rightly) there are lots of large Victorian houses in use by many of the local legal profession as their business premises. My Mum and Sis always refer to Ayr as though it is less affluent than Killie, but architecturally it is nicer (imho); more like Glasgow, with the grand stone facades and gracious proportions.

I suppose this is close link

I didn't clock the shared boiler room, although I think the off-putting thing about a house that grand will always be the high maintenance costs. I wouldn't say Ayr is particularly affluent (we have many suburbs in Glasgow that are as large or larger than all the "posh" bits of Ayr combined). I don't know much about Kilmarnock, but the one person I know from there definitely doesn't talk about it as being anything other than affordable

In an interesting link, Mrs E's grandparents used to live just along the road (in a decidedly more modest home).

More of an interesting proposition than something we'd be in a position to move on now. Schooling options are decidedly more limited in Ayr and we couldn't afford a house like that and an independent school.

    £5.92 paid off CC.

My credit reports have updated incorrectly so that it looks like I have -£10 credit (I blame the balance transfers) - chance would be a fine thing :rotfl:

Our property value has gone up in our lender's estimation by £20k - that means they think we have 75% LTV :j
